President Moon appointed Jeong as the first Commissioner of KDCA, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, on September 11. The formerly Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was elevated to Agency for the increased importance for disease risk management and Moon himself made a travel down to the headquarters to give a letter of appointment to Jeong and an encouragement to the staff.
“Jeong Eun-kyeong is the hero of the K-Quarantine recognized both here and the world. I heard that it is the first time that the president travels to the government department to give a letter of appointment outside the Blue House. I think this is because Jeong and her team are carrying out the important task at the moment and I wanted myself to pay a visit to give my thanks and encouragement on behalf of the people” said Moon.
He added “We don’t know when we can completely contain the virus and the centers being raised to the agency means that the people are ardently wishing to get back to the normal and asking you to do your best for this.”
Jeong responded “I and my team are taking the raised status of us as to bring more systematic, more professional and more proactively prevention, detection and measurement. It is our very first task to contain COVID-19 for now and we will do our utmost best to contain it. KDCA will bear the support of the people in mind and will carry out our duty and responsibility to protect health and safety of the people and the society.”
