Kim Jung-yong, Dean of College of Computing, Hanyang university, is the leader of the projects at the AI Convergence Research Center through which 4 universities (Hanyang ERIC campus, Busan, Inha and Chungnam) are supported 4.5 billion won ($3.7 million) government subsidy for 3 years. 

ERICA is the core of industry-academic cooperation powered by practical study. The goal of the AI Convergence Research Center is to turn AI R&D to down-to-earth study and results from academic research and arguments. 

The goal being set, the center is pushing forward convergence research in bio-science, medical treatment and pharmaceuticals that covers bio-informatics, medical-informatics and pharma-informatics. 21 professors from science technology, pharmaceutical college, engineering and software science are the engine of the center who have already drawn cooperation platforms with 10 organizations and companies including Korea University Ansan Hospital.

The Industry Coupled Problem Based Learning (IC-PBL) of ERICA is especially received as an innovative foundation to foster creative and convergent manpower as it connects academics to industry directly and practically on-site. 

Students of Department of Applied Artificial Intelligence, for this reason, are fully supported 3 year scholarship alongside additional support of 350,000 won for master's and 500,000 won for doctor‘s. 

"Under the down-to-earth research, goal and career driving system of the center, students are experiencing a level-up industry-academic learning. With this as the foundation, Hanyang University ERICA will lay a spring board for universities to advance toward future world of AI" says Kim.

Kim majored in mechanical engineering at Hanyang University and expanded scope of his knowledge to industrial engineering, human factors, quantitative psychology, and rehabilitation medicine. 

Kim pointed out the importance of shifting the industry-academic cooperation paradigm to 'convergence' from 'link' as the former is more of an 'action'. 

"Hanyang University will lead national level AI research and development projects and we will give most of our knowledge, skill and passion to make this happen" says Kim.
