Moon attends Korean New Deal briefing

The Korean New Deal briefing was held July 14 at the Blue House Yeongbingwan attended by President Moon and the chiefs of the government, the labor, the management, the political parties and private sectors.

"The Korean New Deal is led by digital new deal and green new deal. It will lead creating new jobs and industries and the government will make bold investment" said Moon who introduced ten core sectors which are: data dam, AI government, smart medical system, green remodeling, green energy, eco-friendly future mobility, SOC and three more.

"The government directly will pour 114 trillion won ($96 billion) by 2025 and it will be 160 trillion won if included the private investment. The Korean New Deal will ignite a great transformation and the government, the industry and the people should work together to fulfill this grand task" said Moon.

Economy and Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki said "1.9 million jobs will be created by 2025" and the Democratic Party policy leader Cho Jeong-sik said "it will be the biggest project ever planned since the foundation of the nation."

Naver CEO Han Seong-sook said "Naver will make contribution with data" and Hyundai Motor vice chairman Chung Eui-sun said "Hyundai Motor will make contribution with electric and hydrogen vehicles."

Moon field trips for green energy
President Moon visited July 17 the offshore wind turbine site in Buan County, North Jeolla Province. The government plans to raise South Korea's wind power competitiveness to the level of those advanced countries with a goal to be one of the top 5 in the world by 2030. 

Touring the Wind Turbine Technology Research Center which is the only place in South Korea where internationally recognized tests for wind blades are carried out. The ninth phase of the domestic-made wind blades have all been tested here.

Moon asked wether South Korea was step ahead in technology and Human Composites CEO Yang Seung-yoon answered "Years of industry-academic cooperation has almost pushed up the technology to the global level."

After the touring, Moon moved to the floating wind turbine power plant that will supply electricity to 2.24 million households instead of coal power by 2028. 

"Green energy will solve climate change issue, create new jobs and grow national competitiveness. It is ideal that we use most of wind power capabilities since Korea is a peninsula. It is our goal to be one of the top five wind power houses of the world by 2030 and the government will make bold investment" said Moon.
