Child development is affected by natural disposition and surrounding environment. Children grow through experience of communicating with parents.

"Children are clumsy in expressing their feelings. The job of a counseling psychologist is to give analysis to this and subsequent advice and measures so that children can grow normal and good" points out Kim Sang-ok, Director of Future Counseling Psychology.

Kim obtained a master's degree in social welfare at Kookmin University Graduate School of Administration and a doctoral degree in the same major at Sungshin Women's University Graduate School of Arts and Science.

Currently, she is serving as the head professor at Kyung Hee University Graduate School of Public Policy & Civil Engagement and a child counseling professor at Soongsil University.

She established Future Counseling Psychology in 2016 and introduced 'itinerant child development counseling services'. Through the services, she analyzes on children's psychological character and developmental disability in order to bring up appropriate solutions and preventive measures.

"I found that counselors visiting the client's children and parents are more effective than just sit at the office to wait for them to visit. It brings far better results and satisfaction rate. So the itinerant child development counseling services for me is very important" says Kim.

Director Kim is working with 15 researchers and 30 counselors at Future Counseling Psychology and the curriculum includes counseling, cognition therapy, behavior therapy, language therapy, art therapy, music therapy and play therapy for nurseries, kindergartens, schools and social welfare centers.

"Children aged 3 is an important period for us to check whether they are in good development environment. Children start expressing their feelings from that age and some children start showing symptoms of ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), tic disorder and as such."

Kim has published 7 books including <A Word of Mom Decides Her Child's Future>.
