President Moon paid a visit to Daejeon Army Hospital and Armed Forces Nursing Academy on March 2. Daejeon Army Hospital is being used for treating novel coronavirus infected patients from Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province at the moment. After briefed from persons in charge, Moon showed his gratitude to 1,400 medical staff and gave encouragement. 1,400 medical staff is 4/1 of the whole army medical staff.

Moon then moved to Armed Forces Nursing Academy nearby and encouraged 75 army nurses who are about to dispatch to Daegu. It is unprecedented that the president paid a visit to the academy.

“I’m really proud of you. But at the same time, I feel sorry. I believe you will do your role properly and professionally and I will remember your services” said Moon.

Moon visits mask factory
President Moon paid a visit to a mask factory in Pyeongtaek on March 6. The factory hired 80 new employees and increased production to 500,000 units from 200,000 a day. After wearing protection gown and cap, Moon toured facilities by being briefed about each process of making as he made moves. Moon then listened to difficulties and suggestions from Wooil C&T CEO Yongjun Kim, Yuhan Kimberly CEO Gyubok Choi and a number of workers. Moon then said:

“If hospitals and quarantines are the frontline of the war against novel coronavirus, mask manufacturers are the rear base. So I would like to show my gratitude and encouragement. I’ve been briefed that the number of masks has been doubled recently reaching to 11 million units a day. Yet we still need more. To win the war, the government is working on emergency supply and demand system and we will do our best to supply necessary materials such as filter in speed.”

The masks leftover after successful containment of the virus will be bought by the government for reserve.
