President Moon attended the 56th Trade Day ceremony held on December 5. 2,000 people were invited to the ceremony on the day and 10 of them including Youngho Engineering CEO Kihyun Kim were given the Order of Industrial Service Merit and the Presidential Citation. 10 companies which achieved more than $500 million export were also given the Export Tower. Some of the other notable winners are Chang Rak Farms, SoulBrain and Chunsakim.

Moon said “The world top 10 export countries are suffering from slowdown but we achieved $1 trillion export for three years in a row with 11 consecutive years of trade surplus. It is encouraging that South Korea, Germany and China are the three countries that achieved more than $1 trillion export based on manufacturing. It is important for us to keep the competitiveness of the root industries while securing new growth engines.”

Moon listens to voices of farmers

President Moon attended a meeting held at Korea National College of Agriculture on December 12 and listened attentively to voices of farmers and industry officials.

A farmer Sugyeong Yoon said “You said many times about basic income of farmers. I hope the income will be directly connected to farmers rather than farm households.

Another farmer Seungwon Kang said “We are in much need of smart farming. In other words, we need government support for investment in equipment and facilities.”

Moon answered “The government polices on agriculture must answer to the needs and wants of farmers. We will do our best that the benefits of innovation and growth go to all farmers.”

Moon pointed out that the direct pay system would benefit both rice and field farmers and innovation would come to many areas such as supply and demand, price, smart farm and safe food.

After the meeting, Moon toured a cooling house being developed by the Rural Development Administration at the moment. When completed, the house will overcome the scorching heat of the summer by curtains and automated temperature and moisture adjustment. The house is expected to be installed in the UAE.
