Oceans and Fisheries Minister Moon Seong-hyeok attended a special exhibition <Forgotten Sea, Another Sea, the Seas of North Korea> held at the Korea National Maritime Museum on 22nd July. 100 people of renowned and ordinary attended the exhibition on the day which will last until 13th October. Moon in his congratulatory speech said “The exhibition is organized to introduce history, life, harbors and fisheries of North Korea so that people in the South can better understand and open their heart for exchange.” After the exhibition, Moon paid visits to the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency in Gijang County and to the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal to attend a meeting of officials of fishery industry.
Ministry announces to resume the north part of Donghae Harbor
Oceans and Fisheries Ministry has announced to resume the north part of Donghae Harbor from August this year. The north part of the harbor opened in February 1979 and it needed improvement work for it has stood more than 30 years. 40.2 billion won was poured in for the 681 meter section and the improvement work turned the pier type harbor to gravity type. As a result, the safety grade of the north part has been raised to A grade from C for strengthened persisting period. “The re-faced north part of Donghae Harbor will turn the area into a hub of the East Sea and of the trade with the northern regions. In accordance with the government policy, we will keep pushing forward improvement works of those that were built around the 70s and 80s” said the ministry’s harbor development division head Kim Myeong-jin.
