The Senior Venture Association set sail its startup hub ‘Didim’ on May 23 to support re-employment and startup of the middle aged retirees. At the opening ceremony held at Didim office in Gwangjin District Seoul, the former Seoul mayor Sehoon Oh and the Korea Venture Business Women’s Association president Migyeong Park attended to give congratulations.

The Senior Venture Association is a non-profit organization established in August 2017. The 5 initiators who felt the need to train retirees for re-employment or startup gathered their strength. One of the initiators Hyangsook Shin has recently taken the steering wheel of the association after the first president Kunseo Ku. The association has been actively engaging in tech startup, job creation and generation convergence projects. In October 2018, the association opened the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province office.

Around 450,000 middle aged people are reported to be looking for re-employment. There have been supports of the government for SMEs, ventures and startups but the supports for the middle aged have been not sufficient.

“It is very important that they prepare life after retirement while they are still in the job and related training and programs should be provided both from the government and the company. The role of the Senior Venture Association is to lay a cooperation foundation for the interested parties so that their economic activities after retirement should be continuous for as long as they want” emphasizes Shin.

The middle aged has extensive knowledge and experience in their respected fields. It can be a national level waste if the society does not use most of their abilities. But using their abilities effectively and wisely needs effective and wise platforms. This is the reason that the members of the Senior Venture Association see these middle aged groups as one of the main driving forces of the national economy.

The Senior Venture Association’s startup hub ‘Didim’ in Gwangjin District Seoul has lecture rooms, one-man business rooms and communal rooms in its 198 square meter space. Starting from the office in Gwangjin District, the Senior Venture Association is planning to open offices nationwide with Jongno District Seoul, Gangnam District Seoul and Daegu Metropolitan City in order.
