Paris undoubtedly is a city of culture and art. With its global symbol Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Moulin Rouge and Versailles are attracting tourists from the world. The Luvre Museum, the Musee d Orsay, Montmartre and Opera Houses especially are the destinations of artists and classical musicians of the world to pay a visit once in their lifetime. 

Those who have an interest in art might have heard the big names of French artists such as Monet, Degas, Renoir and Gauguin. In keeping with the fame, the art circles of Paris organize exhibitions big and small and invite artists from all over the world. In this respect, it is noteworthy that Ki Ok-ran, the Korean artist famous for ‘trans-human and neo-nomad’, recently held an invitational exhibition at Galerie OHSONG, Paris, February 21 ~ March 10. 

Of 25 works displayed at the exhibition, 20 were the first to show to the public. It took Ki about a year of preparation and it was an extension of the serial exhibition that has been going on in Paris since last year; Vittel Biennale at Paris International Conference Hall, and the Independent Exhibition at Rmn-Grand Palais. 

‘Tran-human’ is a neoanthropinae who dreams of transcending the border of repressed life of human who has transcendental abilities both physically and mentally with help of AI and mechanical equipment. 

Korean Basquiat, Korean Picasso

Art lovers who paid a visit to Ki’s exhibition at Galerie OHSONG praised her works and gave the title ‘the Jean-Michel Basquiat in Korea’ or ‘the Pablo Picasso in Korea’. 

“One thing I came to realize at the exhibition is somewhat aloof from the exhibition itself. I actually envied the French government which provides unsparing support to artists so that art, no matter what styles, can be easily approachable by all walks of lives. Subsequently, the cost for enjoying art is relatively cheap as that of purchasing an art work. It is not surprising, therefore, that Paris indeed has rights to be called as a city of culture and art” said Ki who added;

“It is also interesting to see exhibitions held in unusual places such as Paris International Conference Hall rather than galleries and museums. Naturally, appreciators showed different attitude towards the way they see and view the art works displayed.”

Over the limits

While Ki’s works are being displayed at the Mercedes Exhibition Hall, Hampyeong National Armed Force Hospital, KEPCO headquarters in Korea for 3 to 4 years, Ki was invited as a VIP to Yang Hae Il Fashion Show marking the centenary of the March 1 Movement, held at Hotel Ritz Paris late February this year; the show presented a combination of Korean folk painting and patterns of the national flag with clothes. 

Despite the busy schedules, she organized a time for art fairs held in the UK, Belgium, Hong Kong and Dubai during March and April, an invitational exhibition at Gwangju Bohoon Gallery in May, Plas-Contemporary Art Show held at COEX, Seoul in June, another invitational exhibition at New York, US this autumn, and yet another invitational exhibition at Chonnam National University in May next year. 

“My works are a message of recovery of humanity, overcoming the fear of death and hopes in life” says Ki.

 

L'artiste de 'Trans Human' a été reçue favorablement à la galerie OHSONG au centre de Paris

Son exposition à la galerie Ohsong à Paris 

L’artiste Ki Ok-ran qui a attiré l’attention du monde artistique sur le thème de "Trans Human et Neo Nomad" a tenu une exposition à la galerie Ohsong en France du 21 février au 10 mars. Ses 25 œuvres à la galerie située dans le centre de Paris ont accueilli le public et les professionnels locaux. 20 d’entre elles qui démontrent la richesse de sa créativité ont été présentées pour la première fois dans son exposition. 

Cette exposition centrée sur le thème de « transhumain » (nouveaux êtres humains dotés de capacités supérieures réalisées par l’intelligence artificielle) a reçu une réponse chaleureuse de la part d’artistes français et d'amateurs d'art. 

Elle a participé à «l’exposition de la beauté coréenne», à «VICTAE BIENNALE» à Paris en juillet, et a été désignée pour l’artiste représentative de la Corée du Sud au salon des indépendants au Grand Palais. Ses œuvres sur le thème de « Trans Human et Neo Nomad » se sont développées avec de différentes matières et sont réalisées plus récemment sous forme de peinture à l'huile.

Concepts philosophiques : « Basquiat de Corée »

Son exposition à Paris a été appréciée à Paris. Ses œuvres ont été reconnues par son originalité à tel point qu’elle a été surnommée « Jean Michel Basquiat de Corée ». Les lignes épaisses et foncées englobant un nouveau concept philosophique ont suscité un engouement fort comme Basquiat qui a transformé en art des formes d’expression libres comparables aux graffitis. 

L'auteure a remarqué que « la France soutient politiquement des activités d'artistes et permet à la majorité de la population de jouir plus confortablement de divers types d'art. Par conséquent, les coûts culturels et artistiques sont modérés et les prix d'achat des œuvres sont moins élevés ». Elle a ajouté que « la ville de culture aurait pu être créée grâce à un environnement où de nombreuses personnes peuvent s’approcher de l’art au quotidien. »

Rencontrer le public par ses expositions nationales et internationales
"Une communication sans fin repoussera les limites"

Elle a été invitée en tant que VIP au défilé de mode de Yang Hae-il à l'occasion du 100e anniversaire du Mouvement du 1er Mars. Ses expositions permanentes sont ouvertes dans la salle d’exposition de Mercedes Benz, à l'entrée de l’Hôpital militaire de Hampyeong et au siège de Naju de KEPCO. Elle participera aux différentes manifestations de l’art au Royaume-Uni en avril, en Belgique, à Hong Kong et à Dubaï. En mai, à l'exposition sur invitation à Gwangju, en juin, au 'PLAS-CONTEMPORARY ART SHOW' à COEX. Elle rencontrera des amateurs d’art via ses expositions à New York cet automne et en mai de l'année prochaine à l’Art Space Gallery de l'Université nationale de Chonnam. 

Elle prend des cours de chant et de violoncelle en espérant que : " je pourrais créer de nouvelles œuvres en mêlant des mélodies musicales dans ma création. " Elle a également souligné qu'elle poursuivrait son voyage au-delà de ses limites esthétiques par la communication avec le monde.

Ki’s art world

Trans-human and neo-nomad is the term introduced by Jacques Attali, a French economic and social theorist who coined word ‘homo-nomad human’. According to Attali, trans-human puts oneself in other’s shoe, opens his harbor for others, prepares a table for visitors, values different opinions, knows how to be silent, how to share, how to listen with all ears, and how to help those in need; trans-human waits fellow travelers whom he has no idea who he might be, and trans-human is the neoanthropinae who will open a new world in the 21 century. 

“My recent works are my inner pyramid built on diversity of objects and symmetrical forms, and also a breakaway and a return of orthodox” says Ki.

Ki adopted the key symbols of trans-human to her works: DNA, Digital, Design and Divinity (4D), and Feeling, Female and Fiction (3F). Many civilizations appeared and disappeared through the time. The advent of the digital era has brought a new life style to people who has to feel the need to reestablish relationship between oneself and others, between inside and outside, and between the past and the future; the terms ‘trans-human’ and ‘neoanthropinae’ are derivatives of this marching process of civilizations. 

Ki endeavors to deliver the importance of ‘reconciliation’ and ‘communication’. Trans-human for her is to deliver a message of recovery of humanity and advancement of society. 

“Reconciliation is needed in our society and communication embraces the interactions between the world we live in and the universe as a whole. So I want to give coordinates of time and space in my works where poems, music, imaginations and intuitions are untangled in metaphors and symbols. We are part of nature and we have to live with nature. We should endeavor to achieve reconciliation between people and people, between cities and nature, between people and objects, and between people and nature. 

To deliver the messages of ‘trans-human’ to the people effectively, Ki uses a variety of objects such as computer keyboards, mother boards, CPU coolers, memory and graphic cards, wires, batteries, bolts and nuts, iron plates, musical instruments, natural fabrics, jeans and Korean paper; some compare this type of her works with ‘collage’; some of the good examples are <Concealed Human Returns to Root> and <Beauty of Mingling>. 

What she tries to deliver through these works are harmony between man and man, harmony between cities and nature, harmony between human and nature, and harmony between human and objects. Quite recently, Ki has started to use paints, alongside aforementioned materials, as a new tool to express ‘trans-human’. Various symbols and codes appear in her works and the new tool delivers a new feel and impressions on the same theme. 

Ki’s works, old and new alike, will keep meeting with people home and abroad in the year 2019 like they were in many galleries and museums in the world.

■ Ki Ok-ran et son univers artistique ■

Construction d’une nouvelle perception de soi-même & l’autrui, du présent, du passé et du futur
Nécessité du changement d’angle sous lequel l’on regarde le monde

Les concepts de « transhumain » et « néo-nomade » que l’artiste Ki Ok-ran accentue proviennent de l’ouvrage de l’économiste Jacques Attali « L’homme nomade ». Ses œuvres sont basés sur les caractéristiques du transhumain tels que les ADN, le digital, le design, la divinité ainsi que les trois émotions telles que la sensibilité, la féminité, et la fiction. Elle essaie de garder un point de vue ouvert vers le monde respectant la diversité culturelle et un esprit contemporain. 

Pour exprimer ces éléments et symboliser la figure des humains composés d’énorme quantité de données, elle a emprunté divers objets tels que des composants de l’ordinateur, des claviers, des refroidisseurs processeur, des cartes graphiques, de différents types de fils, des batteries de téléphones portables, ou des vis. Elle utilise aussi la technique du collage avec des parties d’instruments musicaux, des tissus naturels, des jeans, des papiers traditionnels coréens afin de réaliser une communication avec le monde extérieur. La technique du collage en elle-même n’est pas complètement nouvelle mais sa façon de l’appliquer dans sa création pour développer son style d’art d’une manière cohérente est qualifiée d’inédite.

Ses œuvres ont toujours reflété la réconciliation entre les êtres humains, celle d’entre les villes et la nature ou d’entre l’humain et la nature, aussi bien qu’entre l’humain et les objets. Elle a pourtant changé de matière d’expression et récemment elle a opté pour des peintures, ce qui est pourtant une matière banale. Elle voulait en fait insister sur la nécessité du changement d’angle sous lequel on observe le monde. 

Dans son univers artistique, elle poursuit l’humanité et une nouvelle façon d’interprétation du monde. L’harmonie entre divers symboles et les objets de communication réalisée par Madame Ki est apprécié par le public dans le monde entier et enthousiasmera davantage d’amateurs d’art dans son exposition à Paris.
