Increasing number of single household is being resulted a boom of raising a pet or more at home. In other words, Korea’s pet industry is growing fast. Growing of an industry naturally accompanies a demand for specialists and SH Petdog Beauty Academy in Seosan City is playing a part in fostering talented peg beauty specialists with excellent and effective curriculum.

SH Petdog Beauty Academy opened door in 2015 at Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province. But it was 2008 that CEO Chon opened her first pet shop. She came to South Korea from the North as a defector in 2002. She had a great interest in pets and she once had 14 of them at home. While working at Yesan Farming Techniques Center, she traveled to Seoul and Busan time to time to learn pet beauty.

Opening of SH Petdog Beauty Academy in Seosan City was her will to foster future pet beauticians like she used to be. The academy was registered to the Korea Kennel Federation in 2015 and to the UBAID KOREA the next year. People around her thought it not a good idea to open a pet academy in small city like Seosan but she proved her business acumen by opening a branch in Yesan and Seosan. Not only this, students are traveling from Dangjin, Asan, Hongseong, Boryeong, Taean, Chungju and Gongju to learn her skills and knowhow.

The curriculum of SH Petdog Beauty Academy is focused more on field than obtaining a certificate. The classes are divided to suit each purpose: certificate, startup, hobby, short term and professional. Among these classes, the 1 year certificate course is most popular for easy-to-understand theory and down-to-earth practice on brushing, scissoring, shampooing, drying, clipping and lamb clip.

“A second grade certificate usually takes a year and each student need a model pet dog. But we offer model pet dog for free alongside the feed so that students can only focus on lessons without worries on hidden fees. The theory lesson includes history, species and characteristics of each kind while the practice includes visiting other training centers or organizations home and abroad” says Chon.

Thanks to this excellent and effective curriculum, SH Petdog Beauty Academy is showing 100% job placement after successfully finishing the course. Students also have won a number of prizes at various pet beauty contests. Chon also is running a study group for alumni to exchange information and to give continuous support for business.

Her fame brought her to have appeared on a number of TV shows such as Animal Farm, Happy Together, and Surprising World and she currently is active as a career mentor at the Yesan Office of Education. “It is advisable for students to find what they are talented at and what they want to do with their life. This cannot be gained by sitting on a chair in a class but by trying this and that. If they can find a work which they really want and brings bread and butter at the same time, they can’t complain.”

To spread pet culture to more people and regions, Chon is working hard in sweat to introduce a pet dog sports day and various other events during the local festival period nationwide.
