Baseball in Korea is as popular as football. Yet not many people enjoy the game in daily life as they do with football. This is because baseball needs more equipment than football. So the principle of YG Baseball Academy in Gimhae City rolled up his sleeve to prove that baseball also can be played daily like football.

Kim played baseball since childhood and served as the coach of the Naedong Middle School baseball team. In order to turn the baseball as a daily sport, he started at changing the idea of school parents who believe that playing the baseball means to be a baseball player in the future; the point he made is that without enjoying the sport first it will lead one to nothing but pain.
He then categorized each group of people into each different category from hobby to professional and built effective training curriculum. The word spread fast and people from Changwon and Busan started to travel to Gimhae to join the courses. The result was that YG Baseball Academy team won 3 times of the national competitions including the league cup and championship.

“I learned a lot from Japan where playing the baseball is as natural as having lunch. Whether you want to become a professional player or play as hobby, gathering together to do something physically and mentally beneficial is always good” says Kim.

Kim used to be a manager of one of the U12 teams and is serving as the manager of Kimhae Sport for All at the moment. The good news is that a 2,644 square meter baseball stadium is scheduled to open within the first half of the year and residents in and around the city are expected to hire a place more conveniently.

In recognition of its contribution to the industry, YG Baseball Academy received the 2018 Korea Future Management Awards.
