The Jeju Province governor Won Hee-ryong said that he will speed up building the second airport and more social institutions while healing the pain of the April 3 Jeju Uprising and the Gangjeong Village conflicts. 

On the communication and sharing day held this month at the Jeju Provincial Hall, he pointed out the prolonged economic down turn both nationally and regionally and put his emphasis on supporting self-employed and small business owners in particular; the province must strive for creating future-oriented jobs as well as independent fund for the residents; the province must thoroughly check on any possible natural and man-made disasters and bring up the rational budget based on its principles for welfare and development. 

He also encouraged the public servants and the residents to share what they have for the people in need and greet the New Year with new hope and positive mind. The Sipjangsaeng Culture and Art Group livened up the mood on the day by playing musical instruments; the group is consisted of elderly people of local welfare centers in 2012.

Jeju invites promising companies

Jeju signed an investment agreement with a local company and 2 companies located in the capital region. The latter two companies are Emgram and ITM Yoo Ehwa Architects. The former is an applied software developer and it is to be relocated to Jeju by 2021 with 2.5 billion won (US$2.2M) investment and 124 employees. ITM Yoo Ehwa Architects, on the other hand, is to be relocated to the island by 2020 with 2.6 billion won investment and 30 employees. 

The local company Jejugogida is a meat distributor and it is to build a HACCP approved eco-friendly smart factory by the end of next year with 3 billion won investment and 20 employees. 

The Jeju tourism division head Yang Ki-chul said “These three companies are well matched with the island’s development direction for future value and the province will provide unsparing effort for them to settle down nicely.”
