General Nami was a hero who made a contribution to quell the rebellion of Yi Si-ae, one of the Anti-King Sejo movements in Joseon Dynasty, and of taking part in conquering Jurchen people. He was promoted to the today’s defense minister at the age 27 but executed by Ryu Ja-gwang ‘s slander after King Sejo died.
To pay respect to him, the General Nami Shine Preservation Society held ‘Sadanje’– Seoul Intangible Cultural Asset No.20, with sponsorship of Yongsan District, Seoul Metropolitan City and the Ministry of National Defense, from 5th to 9th October.
The eve party took place around the shrine (88-10 Hyochangwon-ro) followed by a 3 days of itinerant drumming and gonging. The flower lamp parade was joined by 100 residents and the general’s going to war, which was the highlight of the whole event, invited district mayor Sung Jang-hyun.
The major parade course were: the shrine – Hyochang Park, Sookmyung Women’s University - Namyeong-dong – Samgakji - Yongsan Fire Station –Sinyongsan station –Yongsan Electronics Market - Wonhyoro 2(i)-ga–the shrine: the parade was joined by around 1,000 people.
Yongsan District mayor Sung Jang-hyun said “The General Nami Shrine Festival is an important local cultural asset that has been passed down for 300 years. We will work closely with the society and residents to preserve it as it is.”
