¡ã Artist Lee Hee-ok

Lee is famous for her works themed on the 4th Industrial Revolution in particular on AI through which she expresses her modern and future-oriented art world. She uses characters of animations and games as well as bit coins and cryptocurrencies for her works. The tulips often appear in her works, for example, symbolize bubbles with which she warns modern people the risks of bubble economies.

“The 4th Industrial Revolution is called the digital revolution accumulated through the 3rd Revolution led by computer and information technology. But in terms of its expansion and explosive sides, this new world is unprecedentedly being created when compared to the past. What is interesting is that there seems to be not sufficient amount of reasoning on this new revolution in our society and this is the reason I’m taking part in it with my works” says Lee.

Lee and artists Moon Hae-young and Jang Hae-ja who have the same mind gather their strength together last April to hold an exhibition themed on the 4th Industrial Revolution and in August Lee also held a solo exhibition in collaboration with the so called ‘the artists dream team’ who is taking initiative in trying this new technological shift and trend.

Lee’s ability was proven by winning the top prize in the western painting category at an invitational exhibition of the PyeongChang 2018. She is also credited with demonstrating her unique art world at a number of overseas art fairs taken place in Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Norway and Czech.

Lee graduated from Ewha Womans University and has run an art academy for the last 20 years with focus on creating art works that respond to the time now and the future.

Her challenging spirit especially is praiseworthy as it has always surprised appreciators with every exhibition she takes part.

Recognizing her unique styles of works, the JTBC broadcasted a motion graphic image inspired by her works at its program <Azit>.

“My life is a picture. So I want to make it abundant. Abundant life I think makes a beautiful scent of work and I’m working hard to spread its beauty to more people.”

You might want to see her works at KINTEX on 3 October (a threesome exhibition: Lee, Moon Hae-young and An Jung-mi) and at COEX (Seoul Art Fair). December also expects an alumni exhibition titled ‘Leeseojeon’ followed by a couple of exhibitions in the US and Singapore next year.
