From a housewife to a pansori drum master
Yoon Yong-mi, CEO of Nanta World, was not into this Korean drumming performance from young age but happened to step into in her late 30s; she found herself with an illness with its cause unknown at the age of 39. Watching her spending day by day doing nothing in helpless feeling, her husband suggested Yoon to join a local instrumental performance group. Thus visiting the group, she instantly fell in love with it and found a new strength and hope to lead her life. It was 1996 Yoon became a member of Gubong Poongmuldan and surprised the people by winning the grand prize at the Jeongeup Nongak Contest the next year. After 2 and half more years, she turned her eye on teaching of the traditional instruments, the career she has carried on for the last 20 years during which she also won the prime minister’s prize at the Gimje Jipyeongsun Nongak Contest in 2005. She then felt a need of academic knowledge in what she is doing and pushed herself forward in obtaining a bachelor of art in traditional performance art. Also from 2006, she learned various skills of pansori (Korean opera) and drumming under the instruction of Park Geun-young (Gobub Cultural Asset No.17) for the next 10 years. She continued winning many prizes at many competitions since then and has been serving as a drummer of the pansori contest hosted by the Bigabi Gukak Association for 4 years in a row and the committee chairwoman of the Korean Traditional Music Association Daejeon Drummer Division. 

Issuing organization of nanta instructor’s certificate 
Nanta World is uniquely consisted of women only. Style-wise, they deliver fusion performance embracing sword dance, wing dance and bamboo drumming or mixed. They also introduce new style drum performances based on both traditional and contemporary rhythms to make things easy and simple for normal people to enjoy or to learn. “For the last 6 years of its history, Nanta World has engaged in many opening performances of various events big or small. Thanks to our capability and history, we were registered as an issuing organization of nanta instructor’s certificate to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism last year. We all are much encouraged by what we have achieved and will keep doing our best to introduce better and more exciting performances” says Yoon.
