Enjoy ice cream at 50 ~ 70% discounted price this summer
Not only SM Ice Cream Discount Store offers ice cream at 50 to 70% discounted price this summer but 365 days a year. CEO Kim worked in the distribution industry for 25 years and has extensive knowledge on running large supermarkets. Gathering his knowledge and knowhow in search of a new business, he introduced SM Ice Cream Discount Store 2 years ago where people could buy a bunch of ice cream of their choice at just 10,000 won ($8.95). For single unit, you can have a bar at 400 won and a big one at 700. You are hard to find any other place that sells ice cream at these prices. Doubting about the brands? You do not need to worry. The names are as friendly as you see every day such as Lotte, Binggrae and Haita. The reason they are sold so cheap is because Kim drew a contract with the just mentioned companies above for volume sales. You can find around 300 kinds of ice cream and carry them in an ice bag that lasts up to 2 hours to start melting. “I’ve observed that many of the customers of the stores have become regulars” says Kim. 

Nearly opening 100 stores within 2 years
And the closing down rate so far has been 0%. “Location, location and location! The location is the key. The head office and the prospective partner search together for the best spot to sell where a good number of people constantly flow.” Because it only sells ice cream, the store needn’t be big but just enough for customers to move around. Also, the store owner just needs to do the job of inventory and selling thanks to the automated management system. “The purchase price at the head office and the chain store are exactly the same. This is because we would like to grow the business together with our partners for win-win. That’s why we were able to have opened around 100 stores within the 2 years of the launching.” 

Global ambition
If you are interested in joining the business but worried about the initial capital, you will be wowed by knowing the initial cost of less than 10 million won ($8,972). “We work in long term perspective. In other words, we don’t chew more than we can by rapidly expanding the number of the store itself. It is true, however, that we are targeting to open 300 stores where we must then be serious to turn our eye to overseas market. So you are very welcome to join this promising business and grow together with us.”
