Road to improvement
We can see as many hair salons on the streets as chicken restaurants nowadays. In other words, you are hard to make a success by running either of the businesses. But a positive change is being made by Jang Ji-won, CEO of In Hair Donggam. He once failed in business and built extensive knowledge on systematic management. In 2003, he met CEO Parkjun of Parkjun Beauty Lab and engaged in consulting services for prospective partners of the hair salon businesses. “Back then the industry seemed to lack of understanding about what customers really wanted but just indulged in what they had achieved. Their technique was great but time changes things and requires always something new. So I gave a considerable amount of effort in building effective management systems which I started to draw a substantial result from 2008” looked back Jang. The result contained systematic management of human resource, marketing, sales, quality, personal development plan and branding with which he applied it to the staff of then renowned hair salon brands in Korea. 60 hair salons directly benefited from Jang’s comprehensive consulting on opening a business during that time.
Launching In Hair Donggam and beyond
Jang launched In Hair Donggam a year ago. He values more of systematic management than the skill of hair trimming which he learned from experience. More focus, therefore, is being made on training the new staff or business partners in relation to interaction with customers, communication with colleagues and a continuous effort in research and development. All training programs of In Hair Donggam are the result of Jang’s years of knowhow and experience and they have a one common goal: fostering excellent self-disciplined hair specialists to become successful entrepreneurs. It is not surprising to know that In Hair Donggam already has opened 9 chain stores within a year of its launching. What is more surprising is that Jang removed 3 of the 9 from the partnership for poor management. “I want my business and my partners to know only about the word ‘success’ and nothing else. I won’t see the word ‘failure’ on my dictionary ever again and that’s why I’m strict when it comes to management.” As to prove it, In Hair Donggam is already observing a sharp rise in sales while staff turnover rate is going straight down in no time. Jang is ambitious and confident that he will foster 100 successful startups within 3 years and 2,000 in 10 years. “Whoever joins my business and works closely together in accordance with the system I have built, I promise they will never write the word ‘failure’ in their dictionaries and I’m ready to prove this.”
