1948년 법학부로 출발한 부산대학교 법과대학은 오랜 역사와 전통 아래 수많은 법조인과 법학자 및 사회전문인력을 배출해왔다. 또한, 국제적으로 변화하는 환경에 발맞춰 학계와 실무분야의 우수한 교수진을 확보하고 있을 뿐 아니라, 첨단의 교육시설을 갖춰 세계 유수의 명문대학과도 어깨를 나란히 하고 있다는 평가를 받아왔다. 그 결과로 부산대 법과대학이 지난 70여 년간 쌓아온 풍부한 교육 노하우와 역량 및 동문의 힘이 결집하여 지난 2008년 부산대학교 법학전문대학원이 개원되었다. 부산대 법학전문대학원은 지역사회의 법무수요에 적극 부응할 수 있도록 ‘금융 및 해운·통상 분야’를 특성화로 한 법학전문대학원이다. 특화되고 전문화된 교육 프로그램을 통해 연구 경쟁력을 강화함으로써 금융 및 해운·통상 분야 전문 법조인 양성에 주력하고 있으며, 차별화된 체계적 교육과정을 통해 창의적이고 전문적인 역량을 갖춘 우수 법조인을 배출할 수 있도록 심혈을 기울이고 있다. 
부산대 법학전문대학원의 이정표 원장은 “지난 2월 제7회 졸업생을 배출한 저희 대학원은 2012년부터 2017년까지 로클럭 33명, 검사 12명, 경찰(경감) 4명, 10대 로펌 8명, 판사 임용 3명을 배출했습니다. 이러한 결과는 저희 법학전문대학원의 교수진과 교육과정이 매우 충실하다는 반증입니다. 이론기초교육과 실무교육이 연계되도록 짜여진 교육프로그램과 무엇보다도 매우 헌신적인 교수님들의 열정이 가져온 성과입니다. 물론 지금도 지역사회는 물론 전국 각지에서 활약할 법조인 양성에 최선을 다하고 있습니다. 특히, 금융 및 해운·통상에 특화된 법학전문대학원으로서 다양한 국제화 프로그램을 통해 ‘글로벌 법조인’을 양성하고 있다는 점이 강점이라 할 수 있습니다”라고 설명했다. 실제로 부산대 법학전문대학원에서는 글로벌 법조인 양성을 위해 21개 외국어 교과목을 개설했다. 또한, 국제적인 경쟁력을 강화하고자 중국 인민대학교 법학원, 일본의 히토쓰바시대학 법률연구과, 미국 알라바마대학교 로스쿨 등 해외 18개 대학 및 로펌과 학술교류협정을 체결하여 교육과정에서의 국제화를 도모하고 있으며, 이들 해외 유수의 대학 및 로펌과의 MOU를 통해 충분한 인턴십 기회를 제공하고 있다. 이 외에도 한국법제연구원, 정부법무공단, 부산지방노동위원회 등과도 교류협정을 체결하여 법조인재들이 중앙과 지역사회의 발전에 기여할 수 있도록 노력하고 있다.
지난 2007년 9월 부산대 법학전문대학 교수로 부임한 이래 중국법·상법 분야의 연구와 우수한 후학 양성에 매진해 온 이정표 원장은 부산중국연구회 회장, 한국수력원자력포럼 자문위원, 법제처 세계법제전문가, 경제인문사회연구회 중국연구자문위원, 부산광역시 시정연구위원회 위원, 부산진해자유구역청 자문위원 등을 역임한 바 있으며, 현재 한국국제상학회 이사, 한중법학회 이사, 한국상사판례학회 이사, 한중사회과학연구회 이사, 부산지방법원 민사조정위원 등 다양한 영역에서 활동하고 있다. 그는 “부산대 법학전문대학원은 경쟁의 틀에 갇혀 있는 1등이 아니라 개방의 틀에 부합하는 일류를 지향하며, 법학전문대학원의 교수진들도 기존의 결과들을 수용하고 해석·적용하는 종래의 해석법학적 전통이 아닌 선도적이고 융합법학적인 학풍으로 전환하도록 함으로써 발전하는 시대적 변화에 부응하고자 노력할 것입니다.”라고 하였다. 또한 “이미 드높은 경제성장을 달성한 중국은 우리나라에 인접해 있을 뿐 아니라 정치, 문화, 경제 등 다양한 부분에서 서로 영향력을 주고받고 있습니다. 갈수록 양국 간 교류가 활발해지고 있는 상황에서 법적인 갈등이나 분쟁을 원만히 해결하고, 정당한 권리와 이익을 지키기 위해선 이러한 분야에도 특화된 전문 역량을 갖춘 법조인이 반드시 필요합니다”라고 강조했다. 다가올 동북아 시대의 중요한 주축이 될 글로벌 법조인 양성뿐만 아니라 미래의 지도자 육성에 매진하고 있는 부산대 법학전문대학원과 이정표 원장의 더욱 눈부신 활약을 기대한다.

Boasting 70 years of tradition and history in the legal industry in Korea, Busan National University School of Law has fostered many talented and devotional law specialists who have made great contributions to advancement of our society. The school has an excellent faculty and cutting edge educational facilities that can compete with globally renowned law schools. It was 2009, that the university officially started to use the current name ‘Busan National University School of Law’ in respond to the demand of the age with finance, shipping and trade as three specialized areas to give focus on. The school has signed agreements with 18 universities and law firms home and abroad including Renmin University of China and University of Alabama School of Law (U.S.) for academic exchange as well as other supportive exchange agreements with the Korea Legislation Research Institute, the Korea Government Legal Service and the Busan National Labor Relations Commission. “Between 2012 and 2017, the school has fostered 33 law clerks, 12 prosecutors, 4 superintendents, 8 lawyers (belonging to the top 10 law firms in Korea) and 3 judges. In accordance with the global trend, the school gives more focus on fostering globally competent law specialists through various and effective international programs” says Lee Jeong-pyo, Dean of Busan National University School of Law. The school runs 21 foreign language courses and is providing internship opportunities by using the most of the MOUs signed with renowned global universities and law firms. Apart from his role as the dean, Lee served as President of the Busan China Research Society, advisory committee member of the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Forum, international law specialist of the Ministry of Government Legislation, advisory committee member on China of the Economics, Humanities and Social Research Council, member of Busan Civil Research Committee, and advisor of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority alongside many other roles he is serving at the moment. “Busan National University School of Law pursues global talents who are proactive, creative and challengeable.
