“Knitting is love”
Jo Sung-jin, CEO of Knitlove

CEO Jo Sung Jin of Knitlove is the one who emerged as a rising star in the knit market surprising the industry by achieving KRW 3 billion won sales within 10 years of opening the knitting supplies wholesale business with only 5 million won. Not only the sales figure but also he is credited for raising knitting as a form of art in daily life to many knitting lovers. He was preparing to open a doll picking shop right before the IMF hit Korea and started to work at a wool shop in Cheonggyecheon instead when things went wrong. When his skill reached to a certain level, he opened his own wool shop and turned his eye to online markets. It was 2007 that he started to build network with knitting lovers and is actively engaging himself in promoting of the art by using the most of SNS platforms. From clothes, scarves, gloves and socks to interior materials and doll clothes, Knitlove offers a variety of product lines. You can also buy a choice of design packages for knitting or participate in the competition organized by Jo to win the whacking tens of millions of won money prizes. If you are a designer and your work is selected, a sum of money is also given to you. Jo’s 18 years of experience tells that the color of charcoal has been the most desired thread color for the last 10 years in the knitting market. Jo imports threads from Turkey and releases limited amount in variety to secure scarcity. He predicts that the knitting market has a great potential to pioneer since the large companies has not yet stepped their foot in the field. Jo is a person with a kind heart. He has organized ‘Red Cap Making Project’ in cooperation with 1865 Wine for 3 years to help children suffering from tumor. Jo supports the cost to make the red caps that should be sent to the children as gift and gathers KRW 2 thousand won per cap. He once donated the fund (15 million won) to a children’s tumor association. As for the future plan, Jo is preparing to open knitting museum around Seoul and in Jeju by 2023 so that he could promote knitting and organize international exchanges and competitions.
