세계 최대의 가전 박람회라 불리는 ‘CES 2018’에서 참관객들의 이목이 가장 집중됐던 테마는바로 ‘드론’이었다. 미니 드론 100대를 이용한 화려한 조명쇼와 함께 시작된 이번 박람회는 빠르게 변화하고 있는 드론 시장의 기술과 트렌드를 한 눈에 살펴볼 수 있는 무대였다. 오는 2022년까지 43조 2,000억 규모로 성장할 것으로 전망되는 세계 드론 시장의 흐름에 발맞춰 우리 정부 또한 초기시장 창출과 기술 확보를 위해 다양한 지원책을 시행하고 있다.

재난·안전용 특수 드론 개발, 앞선 기술력으로 주목
미래형 4차 산업의 하나로 주목받는 ‘드론’은 우리들의 삶을 더욱 편리하고 안전하게 만들어 줄 것으로 전망된다. 이미 영화나 TV 프로그램을 통해 드론을 활용한 촬영장면이 종종 등장하고 있으며, 농업·에너지·유틸리티·광산·건설·부동산·뉴미디어 등 드론의 활용 분야는 그야말로 무궁무진하다. 이러한 상황에서 무엇보다 중요한 것은 이처럼 다양한 산업에 활용될 수 있는 드론 기술을 개발하고 시장 경쟁력을 확보하는 것이라 할 수 있다. 이에 재난·안전에 특화된 특수 드론을 전문으로 개발·제작하고 있는 ‘㈜우리항공’에서는 “사람을 지키는 기술”을 목표로 국내 드론기술의 경쟁력 제고와 세계 시장 선점을 위해 최선을 다하고 있다.
지난 2016년 8월 설립된 우리항공은 세밀한 드론 조종을 가능케 하는 ‘Flight Controller’를 자체 개발했으며, 세계 최초로 ‘Open-path 방식 실시간 유독가스 측정 드론’을 개발하며 우수한 기술력을 입증했다. 지난해 9월에는 KT 5G 서비스 공모전에서 장려상을 수상했으며, 11월엔 NICE평가정보㈜ 기술평가 우수기업 인증을 획득, 전주국방벤처센터 협력업체로 선정되기도 했다. 우리항공의 박선기 대표는 “최근 발생한 ‘제천 스포츠센터 화재 참사’와 ‘영흥도 낚싯배 침몰 사고’에서 보듯 신속한 상황파악과 그에 따른 조치는 소중한 인명을 구하는 데 있어 가장 중요한 요소입니다. 또한, 취약한 여성 및 아이들을 대상으로 한 강력범죄가 급증하고 있는 가운데 이를 해결할 수 있는 방안으로 ‘드론’을 활용한 기술 개발에 매진하고 있습니다”라고 전했다. 
최근 우리항공에서 주력하고 있는 분야는 ‘여성 및 아동 대상 강력범죄 예방을 위한 휴대용 드론’ 개발 사업이다. 어두운 골목길 등의 취약지대 진입시 드론을 활용해 조명을 밝히고, 사용자를 따라가며 영상 및 위치를 실시간으로 전송해 범죄를 예방하는 것은 물론, 위급 상황 발생시 경찰 신고 및 경보음 작동을 통해 신속한 조치를 가능케 하는 것이 이 기술의 핵심이다. 특히, 인력 및 운용시간, 사용자 역량 등에 영향을 받지 않고 누구나 손쉽게 사용 가능하다는 점이 장점이다. 우리항공에서는 오는 2월로 예정된 특허 출원을 시작으로 사업을 확장할 계획이다. 

“세계 드론시장을 향한 도전을 멈추지 않겠습니다”
이와 함께 우리항공에서는 팽창식 튜브와 열화상 카메라, 수중드론을 장착한 ‘인명탐색 및 수난 인명구조용 드론’ 개발과 자율주행 로봇에 드론과 IOT 기술을 결합한 ‘지능형 가정경비 시스템’, 관광, 토지측량, 방범, 재난감시, 재난대응, 실종자 수색 등에 다목적으로 활용할 수 있는 ‘Vtol(수직이착륙기)’, 1,800만 원대의 저렴한 가격과 입제 및 액제 살포가 모두 가능한 ‘농업용 드론’, 재난 현장의 유독가스 농도를 실시간으로 측정하는 ‘유독가스 측정용 드론’ 등을 개발하고 있다. 
박선기 대표는 “현재 대부분의 기술들은 개발이 완료됐거나 테스트 단계에 돌입해 있습니다. 빠른 속도로 성장하고 있는 세계 드론 시장의 추세를 감안할 때 시장 선점을 위한 제품 상용화와 확산이 무엇보다 중요하며, 이를 위한 투자유치에 심혈을 기울이고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 이에 우리항공에서는 2018년 중 정부과제 2억 원과 기관투자유치 8억 원 등 총 10억 원의 투자유치를 통해 제품의 신속한 시장 출시를 위해 박차를 가하고 있으며, 해외 판로 개척을 위한 중국 및 미국 기업과의 협의도 진행 중에 있다. 또한, 이를 토대로 연말까지 매출 152억 원을 목표로 드론 전문기업으로서의 입지를 구축해나갈 방침이며, 오는 2022년 총 매출 500억 원 이상을 올리는 상장기업으로 도약해나갈 계획이다. 세계 드론 시장을 향한 당찬 포부를 내보이며 성장을 향한 발걸음을 늦추지 않고 있는 ‘우리항공㈜’와 박선기 대표. 이들의 열정이 앞으로 어떤 결실을 맺게 될지 그 귀추가 주목된다.

It is noteworthy that the CES 2018 opened with a splendid light show realized by 100 drones which wowed the visitors. Indeed, drone is rising as one of the most promising contents of the 4th Industrial Revolution with its vast usability in the agriculture, energy, utilities, mines, construction, real estate and new media industries. But how it can actually be done is a different matter and thus the research and development is very important to secure the best seats in advance in this coming industry. Established in August 2016, Woori Aviation wowed the world by developing the world’s first ‘Open-path Type Real Time Toxic Gas Measuring Drone’ as well as ‘Flight Controller’ that has enabled the detailed controlling of drones. The company won the citation at the KT 5G Service Contest in September last year which led to have obtained the Excellent Enterprise Certificate from NICE Information Service in November the same year. As a result, Woori Aviation was chosen as a partner company of the Defense Venture Center Jeonju. “Drones are not only useful for industrial use but also can be effective tools to prevent accidents, disasters and crimes or to minimize the damages if not avoidable” explains Park. Woori Aviation especially is focusing on development of portable disaster prevention drones for children and women. The drones can function as a ‘light’ in dark places and as a ‘camera’ to film the location and images that can be transmittable as well as an ‘alarm bell’ to call the police or people nearest. With the realization of these technologies, CEO Park currently is preparing to apply for patents by the coming February with the follow-up test in Hwaseong City before collaborating the business with KT at the final stage. Apart from the disaster prevention drones, Woori Aviation is working on drones for detecting, lifesaving, AI home security, tourism, land surveying, crime prevention and disaster monitoring. Woori Aviation also working on developing Vtol (vertical take-off and landing craft) which will coast around KRW 18 million won as well as agricultural drones and toxic gas measuring drones. “Most of the models we are working on at the moment are near completion or in the testing stage. We see the importance of dominating the market in advance and will keep continuing our investment in R&D.” Park’s confidence and determination are well backed up by the Woori Aviation’s plan to secure KRW 200 million won government fund this year and additional 800 million won investment from a number of organizations as well as cooperation with companies in China and the USA. CEO Park is ambitious to achieve KRW 15.2 billion sales by the end of the year with prospective KRW 50 billion sales by 2022.
