Future Strategy & Policy Institute opened its door in July 2012 with a goal to promote futurology in Korea. The institute has exchanged knowledge and information with global authorities in the field such as Jerome C. Glenn (the Director of the Millennium Project), Thomas Frey (futurist), Jose Luis Cordeiro (prof. of Singularity University) and Park Young-sook (CEO of UN Future Forum) for many years and introduced to Korea up-to-date industry information released by WEF, NIC, MIT Media Lap, DaVinci Institute, Kurzweil and Indaily. Other roles of the institute include assisting the government organizations and companies in relation to future forecasts and strategy, 4th Industrial Revolution and fostering talented industry specialists. “The 4th Industrial Revolution will change all most everything from politics and economy to society, culture, education and jobs. It will change things faster, smaller, cheaper and better. According to McKinsey & Company, the 4th Industrial Revolution will happen 10 times faster than the Industrial Revolution in the past with 300 times more affected areas and 3,000 times more ripple effects. This is the reason that we must prepare for the coming age in advance” explains Park Gyeong-sik, Director of Future Strategy & Policy Institute. He pointed out the current issues on high unemployment rate and insecurity of the old ages and said “The Moon Administration has introduced two presidential committees in relation to creating jobs: the Job Committee and the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee. It is good but what is more important is to help people build vision for their future.” It is said that about 7 million jobs will disappear while 60% never existed jobs will be newly created. “So, we should move faster in advance to secure the future jobs that are promising after 10 years. Also, we need to be aware of inefficiency of the existing conformist educational systems that will not meet the new demand of the market. We have to pay attention to rational predictions that the jobs such as car insurance, repair centers or car wash services will be replaced by robots due to the highly advanced manless vehicle technologies.” These of his assertions seem credible considering his qualification and status in the field: he obtained a certificate of the International Future Prediction Specialist as the first Korean and is serving as a member of the World Future Forum, a member of the Millennium Project and as CEO of the Future Economy and Society Institute as well as Chief Director of the International Future Society and the head professor of the Future Prediction Department of Seoul Venture University Graduate School. He wrote a number of books themed on future society such as <4th Industrial Revolution After 10 Years>, <Jobs After 10 Years> and <Future Prediction and Strategy Bible> alongside the joint authorship on <NIC Global Trend 2030> and <UN State of The Future 2030/2040>. “To better prepare for the coming age of the 4th Industrial Revolution, I suggest five things: 1) move fast 2) break the boundaries between industries 3) share the knowledge, information and services 4) converge to create synergy effect and 5) work together.” Park quoted Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, “The 4th Industrial Revolution is not about changing what we do but it will change mankind.”
