“Majangji Farm produces only the eco-friendly grown organic agricultural products!”
Bang Sun-ho, CEO of Majangi Farm

Located in Daap-myeon, Gwangyang City, Majangji Farm is producing organic agricultural products through eco-friendly farming methods. Organic foods are relatively expensive than inorganic foods due to high production cost and investment. “Organic foods are 1.7 times more expensive than inorganic foods, the main reason for consumers to hesitate to open their purse. But since they are healthier than normal foods, the government should bring up effective polices for separating the organic products from inorganic ones” emphasizes CEO Bang Sun-ho of Majangi Farm. He points out the need of separating the GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) from the Eco-Friendly Agricultural Products (ORGANIC). “The GAP and the ORGANIC are two different things. But the marks are similar and they are causing confusion to the consumers. So, the government should redesign the marks to make things clear.” Bang explains that the GAP is attached on the products cultivated by using agricultural pesticides and chemical fertilizers on condition of the legal amount. The ORGANIC, on the other hand, does not use any agricultural pesticides or chemical fertilizers at all but only organically grown. It is also problematic that the GAP mark is located in the front line before the ORGANIC mark on the page of the government introduction on products. Naturally, people can regard the GAP better than the ORGANIC. Worth still, the GAP has no articles about banning the GMO products. The argument of Bang seems creditable considering the fact that he has devoted his life to producing healthy agricultural products from only the eco-friendly methods for the last 40 years. He has taken the initiative in spreading the eco-friendly farming methods and obtained the 8ha Low Pesticides/11.5ha Organic Certificate in 2002. In 2005, he established the Eco-Friendly Agriculture Society to play the springboard for promoting the eco-friendly methods. And the effort finally drew a substantial result: Daap-meyon was designated as the Korea’s first organic ecology village for producing organic bracken in 2009. The bracken was then followed by a series of other organically grown foods including dried persimmon, plum and organic ingredient-based processing foods. Bang says “I’m a farmer and farming is a God given. As an honest farmer, I will keep doing my very best to produce only the health agricultural products for people.”
