Moon holds press conference for 2018
President Moon held press conference for the year 2018 at the Blue House on 10 last month. Under the slogan ‘A Nation with Better Quality of Life’, he opened “The people gave their power to the government and the government has to work for them. It is our duty to make a nation more righteous and peaceful and safer and happier. This is the nation we all want to build and it is our goal of the year 2018 to secure better quality of life for all.” He continued “We are pouring more budgets into creating jobs and improving the support systems. We are turning temporary workers to permanent and have achieved minimum wage increase by 16.4%. We started to see more businesses joining in our effort to solve unemployment issue and we also see the managements and the labors work together for this. The recent increase of minimum wage in particular will secure the very basic life of low income families and it will drive our income-centered growth policy. And this increase will be backed up by supporting small and medium businesses to remove part of their financial burden on labor cost.” He then closed his speech with emphasis “We will pour our utmost effort in creating safer Korea. Safety of the people is our top priority and we will systematically manage this. We will improve the systems to respond to accidents and disasters on 24/7 basis but not a one-off response. We will reduce the number of suicide, traffic accidents and industrial accidents by half until 2022. We will report health and hygiene check-up on diseases, food and chemical substances to the people on a regular basis. We will give a considerable part of our efforts in preventing child abuse, youth violence and gender violence. We will keep our promise made to the children of Sewol ferry and prove it by making a safer Korea.”

Moon receives Khurelsukh
President Moon received Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Prime Minister of Mongolia on 15 last month at the Blue House. They discussed on political and economic cooperation, regional security and status of the Korean Peninsula. Moon said “I congratulate the 100th day of Mr. Khurelsukh serving as the prime minister and I would like show my gratitude to his visit to S. Korea as his first foreign country. Korea and Mongolia share many things historically, geographically and culturally. We share the same value in democracy, market economy and regional peace and prosperity. Using this as the foundation, we will strengthen our comprehensive partnership and will raise it to a strategic partnership within our term.” Moon also pointed out the role of Mongolia, which built diplomatic ties with both North and South Koreas, to make contribution to bring peace to Eurasia through ‘joint responsibility’ which we are building together at the moment. Mr. Khurelsukh said in response “We value highly of our comprehensive partnership and this is the reason I made my first overseas trip to S. Korea. I hope in every possible fields of cooperation we will work together and develop it.” Mr. Khurelsukh added “The PyeongChange 2018 will be a festival for world peace and a stepping stone to bring peace and security to North East Asia. I have to say that the North’s decision to participate in the games ascribes to Moon’s unceasing efforts for dialogue and policy making.”

Moon receives Mubarak
President Moon received Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the envoy of UAE on 9 last month at the Blue House. Exchanging opinions on development of relations between S. Korea and UAE, Moon praised the strategic partnership between the two countries and asked Mubarak to play a role to advance the partnership to future-oriented. “Mubarak has played the decisive role in progress of the substantial cooperation in various fields including the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. It is meaningful that the unit 1 is to be completed by the end of the year and I hope it will bring a massive success.” Mr. Mubarak in respond said “UAE has developed strategic partnership with S. Korea based on mutual trust and we will keep doing our best to develop our relationships.” Mr. Mubarak then delivered Moon a personally handwritten letter of Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and hoped reciprocal visit between the two leaders are made in near future.
