“We promote Korean artists and art brands to the world”
Hong So-min, CEO of AYA Art Core Brown / Chief Curator and Art Director of Brown Gallery

AYA Art Core Brown has built its identity as an art management and promotion specialist. It organizes various art projects, consulting and investment advice in a way to promote Korean artists and art brands. The ‘Y’ in the middle of AYA stands for CEO Hong’s English name ‘Yesica’ and AYA means ‘wow’ in Chinese. Hong majored in visual design and studied humanities in California, USA. In 2009, she opened Brown Gallery and subsequent AYA Art Core Brown in order to effectively promote K-Art based on which she has organized numerous art collaborations. <Mute: What We See in Silence> collaborated with Webzen in 2017, for example, invited 5 in-house artists of AYA projects to join the ‘IP’ of a famous game ‘MU’; ‘IP’ in this case also stands for ‘Intellectual Property’. She also is working on contents spin-offs and business consulting in collaboration with Art & Entertainment Law Firm headed by lawyer Jang Jun-hwan; she actually brought up a project called <Lawyers>, inspired by the same titled book written by the lawyer Jang, and the project shed new light on 11 human rights lawyers including deceased former president Roh Moo-hyun. Hong emphasizes on keeping the ‘fundamentality of art’ that is not affected by the trend time to time. This of her philosophy is well presented in her show project called ‘Zen’ collaborated with artist Baek Won-sun and The Gallery; Baek displayed 43 Korean paper works in harmony inside of a minimal container installed at Dosan Park; it is received as a contemporary art that crossed the border between space and time to illuminate the charm of Korean paper art. Late last year, Hong signed a MOU with Tacteen, a women and youth sex education organization, and is expanding the scope of collaboration in cooperation with Mac Cosmetics, a supporter of Tacteen, in a way to pioneer new channels for K-Art. It seems that we can look forward to seeing the continuing collaboration and art projects from Hong in the year 2018.
