“Colors are my instrument to resonate listeners’ hearts”
Artist Park Mi-ser

Park’s landscape paintings seem somewhat easy and common. But when taking a close look, one might feel her language delivered to the heart of the viewer due to the tranquility and grace it resonates. This of her value is well expressed in her works: <Wonderful Sight>, <Stepping Stones>, <Autumn Love>, <One Day in Spring>, <Joy>, <Yellowy Rape Blossoms> and <Reason>. She won the grand prize with her work <One Day> at the Paris New Year’s Invitational Exhibition 2013; it was themed on stepping stones and Park used the stones as a channel to paradise. However, Park doesn’t confine the subject to landscape only but familiar scenes remained in the memories of those who grew up or lived in rural areas: chili peppers being dried up upon ‘jangdokdae’ – Korean pottery condiment – with her special talent in using variety of colors in balance. A professor once praised Park by appreciating her works “Park’s works can compare with Italian renaissance in Korean terms. The uniqueness, however, is at her unique use of colors.” It might sound not that surprising that Park can use colors very well since she is an artist. But her delicate use of brush or touch application of knives delivers each different sentiment of the artist to the viewers. “It is difficult to find one’s own color although each of us has each different color. Some people ask me why I don’t try something different like abstract and so on. But it is my principle not to lose my ‘basic color’. I can say it is my ‘identity’.” Park was born to a well-to-do family and grew up in an art-friendly environment. Despite her late zeal for art, her talent proved herself to be a successful artist today. Starting with the special selection for the Korea New Arts Contest Exhibition in 2012, she won the grand prize at the Paris New Year’s Invitational Exhibition in 2013 as well as the inclusion in the 50 Artists Invitational Exhibition held to celebrate the 24th Anniversary of Korea-Russia Diplomatic Ties in the same year. With her name wide spread, some gallery curators recognize her by the name tag. It is also notable that her works are sold more by the visitors than her acquaintances. “Colors for me are like the keyboard. A musician plays the keyboard to resonate the listeners’ hearts and I do the same with paintings.” In the year 2018, she is scheduled to hold or participate in a number of exhibitions including the 115th Anniversary of the Korean American Day Stamp Exhibition held in Washington in January followed by a solo exhibition in Brunei, and the Artists of the Year Exhibition in February as well as the Modern Women’s Art Association Exhibition and the Seoul Women Artists Association Exhibition in May.
