Opening a new possibility for OLED display

People who visited the CES 2017 might have witnessed the ever increasing demand for OLED display for TV screens. Experts in addition voiced together that OLED display will rapidly take over smartphone screens in no time. At this point, we need to pay attention to ‘electroforming technology’ needed for making OLED screens. And talking about the technology, we must not miss giving credits to Crea Future Corporation specialized in nickel electroforming technology. Co-representative Song Moon-soeb says “The technology enables us to precisely copy the same metal mold by applying electric gilding if i put it in simple terms. Copper used to be used for gilding but nickel and iron also are used nowadays.” Crea Future Corporation currently is producing ‘HD OLED Shadow Mask Invar Sheet’ and also producing and supplying ‘nickel prism stamper’ with roll stamping processing for the companies that produce light guide plates. Quite recently, however, the company shared its focus on development of Fine Metal Mask Invar Sheet which is one of the core parts of the OLED vapor plating process. Co-representative Kim Young-sun says “All employees of Crea Future Corporation have either master’s degree or PhD in metallic material with more than 10 years of experience in the field. And they are working hard to bring cutting edge technologies to Ni-P gilding for micro pattern core, ultra precision micro pattern processing, Ni electro stamper, surface-enhanced stamper for roll stamping and Fine Metal Mask for OLED.” Experts say that the resolution of OLED must be at least 800 PPI for the use in smartphones. Song says “How thin the Invar Sheet of Shadow Mask and how high the perforated accumulation against surface decides the performance of OLED screen. Our electroforming technology is expected to overcome the 20μm limit in thickness produced by rolling process.” In fact, electroforming technology is known to require high level processing technic when compared to normal gilding. The global OLED display leader Samsung Electronics actually depends on the rolling process-type Shadow Mask technique of Japanese DNP (Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd.) which suggests how delicate and difficult the electroforming technology is. Kim says “It is highly possible that the OLED production process will shift to using Fine Metal Mask made of electroforming-driven Invar Sheet from of the rolling process-driven Invar Sheet considering the huge demand for OLED display in smartphones from Samsung, Apple and the Chinese counterparts.” Currently, Crea Future Corporation is an in-house company of the Korea Polytechnic University Business Incubation Center and is receiving support from the government. Let us wait to see whether Crea Future Corporation can change the map of the OLED display industry in near future.
