샤프카트 미즈지요예프 우즈베키스탄 대통령이 지난 22일 3박4일 일정으로 한국을 공식 방문했다. 문재인 정부 들어 도널드 트럼드 미국 대통령의 공식방한 이후 두 번째로 이루어진 이번 국빈방한은 한.우즈베키스탄 수교 25주년 그리고 고려인 정주 80주년을 기념하는 해에 이루어져 더욱 뜻 깊었다. 첫 공식 일정으로 미즈지요예프 대통령은 한국상공회의소와 우즈베키스탄투자진흥위원회의 공동주최로 다음날인23일 신라호텔에서 열린 ‘한국.우즈베키스탄 비즈니스 포럼’ 에서 개회사를 했다. “우즈베키스탄: 경제 자유화, 사회 민주화”란 타이틀로 개최된 포럼에서 미즈지요예프 대통령은 ‘실질적 협력’을 강조하며 각 분야의 관계자와 파트너를 일일이 불러 일으켜 세우며 협력진행상황에 대한 보고와 계획을 들어보는 열정을 보여 많은 참석자들로부터 연이어 뜨거운 박수를 받았다. 이후 축사를 맡은 김동연 경제부 총리는 미즈지요예프 대통령의 열정에 감격했다는 말을 시작으로 자신은 우즈베키스탄을 몇 번 방문한 적이 있으며 당시 부총리였던 미즈지요예프 대통령을 만나 허심탄회한 얘기를 나누었다며 우즈베키스탄 국민들이 보여준 국가발전에 대한 열정과 한국인들에 대한 친근감에 아주 강한 인상을 받았다고 했다. 그는 이번 공식방문이 양국의 협력을 강화하는 계기가 될 것이며 또한 문재인 대통령과 한국인들을 대신해 진심으로 방문을 환영한다며 말을 맺었다. 포럼이 있던 같은 날, 미즈지요예프 대통령은 서울 현충원을 찾아 참배했고 이어 청와대에서 문재인 대통령과 정상회담을 가졌다. 두 정상은 실질적 경제, 정치협력을 강화하는데 뜻을 모았다. 아울러 포럼과 정상회담을 계기로 한국무역보험공사, 현대건설, 포스코등 한국 공기업과 사기업들이 양해각서를 체결하는 등 활발한 협력을 보이고 있다. 현재 한국은 우즈베키스탄의 5대 교역국이자 3위 투자국이며 400개 이상의 한국 기업들이 현지에서 활동 중이다.

President Mirziyoyev emphasizes ‘substantial economic cooperation’ at Korea-Uzbekistan Business Forum

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, made a state visit to Korea on 22 last month. It was the second state visit after U.S. President Donald Trump since Moon Jae-in took the Blue House. As the first move of his four day schedule, President Mirziyoyev attended the Korea-Uzbekistan Business Forum held at the Shilla Seoul early in the morning the next day. The forum was organized by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the State Committee for Investments of the Republic of Uzbekistan under the title “Uzbekistan: Economic Liberalization, Society Democratization”. In his opening remark, Mr. Mirziyoyev emphasized with great passion on substantial cooperation and pointed out each business man with his partners in each field to stand up to give details on progress for cooperation. Korean Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon in his congratulatory remark said that he visited Uzbekistan a number of times and met Shavkat Mirziyoyev who was then serving as Deputy Prime Minister. He highlighted that they shared a heart-to-heart talk and he could see the passion of the people of Uzbekistan in national development and also the intimacy with Korean people. He closed his speech by saying that the state visit would enhance cooperation between the two countries and he delivered the warmhearted welcome on behalf of President Moon and the people of Korea. After the forum, Mr. Mirziyoyev paid a respect at Seoul National Cemetery and held a summit talk with Moon at the Blue House. The two leaders agreed for substantial economic and political cooperation. Numerous public organizations and businesses including the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, Hyundai Engineering & Construction and POSCO also signed MOU for substantial cooperation on the occasion of the forum and the summit. Korea is one of the top 5 trade partners of Uzbekistan and ranked as the third investor and more than 400 Korean companies are operating at the moment.

주한라트비아대사관 99주년 국경절 행사 열어
주한라트비아대사관은 지난 11월17일 서울 그랜드 하얏트 리전시 룸에서 라트비아 독립 99주년을 기념하는 행사를 열었다. 많은 외교관, 정부관계자, 기자들 그리고 일반시민들이 참석한 가운데, 페테리스 바이바르스 주한라트비아대사는 라이몬즈 베요니스 라트비아 대통령을 대신하여 한국국민들에게 깊은 존경과 진실된 우정의 마음을 표시한다는 말로 개회사를 열었다. “라트비아에서의 한국 기업활동이 증가하고 있고, 이미 2016년에 5천만 유로의 규모로 15% 성장을 보였던 라트비아의 대 한국 수출 또한 금년에 빠르게 증가하고 있습니다. 또 라트비아를 찾는 한국 관광객의 숫자 또한 매년 10~15% 증가하고 있습니다” 라며 양국의 경제관계를 언급한 바이바르스 대사는 이어 “2018년에는 한국에서 평창 동계올림픽이 개최되고, 라트비아는 건국 100주년을 맞이하게 됩니다. 이를 기념하여, 평창 올림픽이 개최되는 시기에 맞춰 라트비아의 라이몬즈 베요니스 대통령께서 역사상 처음으로 아름다운 나라인 한국을 방문하시게 됩니다. 라트비아의 100주년을 축하하는 콘서트, 영화상영, 서적출간 등 많은 행사들이 이어지게 될 것이니 많은 관심과 축하를 부탁 드립니다. 또 더 많은 한국인들에게 라트비아가 각인되는 2018년이 되도록 도움을 아끼지 말아 주십시오” 라며 내년에 열리는 다채로운 행사들을 특히 강조했다. 권경훈 주한 라트비아 명예영사는 “99년전, 라트비아 국민들은 서로 손에 손을 잡고 외세에 맞서 독립을 쟁취했습니다… 오늘날 라트비아는 나토, 유럽연합의 회원국임은 물론 최근에는 OECD 회원국이 되었습니다… 라트비아는 유럽에서 가장 빠른 경제성장률을 보이고 있는 나라 중 하나이며…. 한국과 라트비아는 최고의 친구관계를 유지할 것입니다” 라며 한국과 라트비아의 역사적 유사성 그리고 경제동반자 관계를 강조했다. 이어 윤순구 외교부 차관의 축사도 이어졌다. 이날 행사에는 라트비아 오페라가수 그리고 인천서구소년소녀합창단이 각각 자국의 국가를 불렀으며 합창단은 행사 마지막에 축가로 ‘아리랑’을 부르기도 했다.

Latvian Embassy in Seoul celebrates the 99th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia

The Latvian Embassy in Seoul held a ceremony celebrating the 99th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia on 17 November at Regency Room, Grand Hyatt Seoul. Many diplomats, government officials, reporters and ordinary people attended the event on the day to celebrate together the anniversary. The Latvian Ambassador Mr. Peteris Vaivars opened his remark by showing his deepest respect and true friendship to the people of Korea on behalf of Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis. “I would like to underline good increase of Korean business presence in Latvia and growing number of Latvian exports to Korea which increased by 15% and reached 50 million EUR in 2016 and shows rapid growth this year as well. Latvia is happy to welcome more Korean tourists which number is growing by 10-15% annually” said Vaivars and continued with emphasis “In 2018, when Korea will be hosting Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, Latvia will celebrate its 100th Anniversary. We will kick-off the celebration by the first ever visit of the President of the Republic of Latvia to beautiful country Korea in February 2018. Kwon said “99 years ago, people of Latvia firmly stood together, overcoming all the foreign challenges, hand in hand, heart to heart, and started their own nation…having rebuilt the country, Latvia is now a member of NATO and EU, and joined the Eurozone and most recently OECD. Latvian economy has also shown one of the fastest growth rate(s) in Europe….I trust Korea and Latvia will remain the best friends.” A Latvian opera singer sang Latvian National Anthem and the Incheon Seo District Children’s Choir sang Korean National Anthem and Arirang later on as a congratulatory song which closed the event on the day.
