Laying the foundation for Korean forensic science

Lee Yoon-ho, Dean of Dongkuk University Police Academy, Kang Young-gyu, President of Korean National Police Veterans Association, Song Young-nam, Director of International Forensic Institute, and Park Ki-gyun, Chairman of Global PIS signed a business agreement for promoting forensic science and its advancement in Korea on 27 last month. The private manhunting businesses are widely practiced in many advanced countries while the Korean counterpart is relative left behind with lack of government support and recognition. To improve the current status, the four aforementioned organizations gather their strength to promote the private detective industry in Korea through joint research and training as well as industry-university cooperation. They aim at raising the role of private detectives in procuring handwriting, finger prints and documents and their believability while securing talented manpower and making the use of retired police officer’s knowhow and experience. The four leaders are expecting that the promotion of the industry will also make contribution to creating jobs in this relatively new field. It is common practice that many advanced country work together with private detectives to effectively solve the cases. For this, the four organizations agreed to share their research projects, facilities and equipment as well as mutual support with the greater goal of promoting the industry as a whole in Korea.
