Healthy hens lay healthy eggs
Yeo Ki-heok, CEO of King’s Farmers

Eggs probably are one of the most consumed foods by human on earth. From dough to bread, they have been used in many foods and they provide rich nutrients such as protein, calcium and iron to us. A statistics reports that average 254 eggs were consumed per person in Korea alone in 2015. This might be the reason that the recent reveal of the pesticides contaminated eggs has a bigger impact on the consumers of the world. But that is not the single factor that worries people; the so called ‘factory henhouse’ push hundreds of hens in less than a A4 size steel bar each to lay an egg a day; most of them die within 2 years. It seems not surprising that some farmers use the pesticide called ‘fipronil’ to kill mites and fleas on those hens to keep the business rolling. Many specialists voice together that ‘factory henhouse’ also is the cause of mass mortality. The alternative was going back to free ranges. Yet this did not seem to work out as expected; some farmers drove hundreds of hens into a limited space of ranges.

Taking the initiative, King’s Farmers CEO Yeo Ki-heok restructured his family farm that has passed down for 50 years. He improved his henhouse to let in and out of natural draft and designed a 49 square meter patch per 100 hens with one rooster per 12 to 15 hens; it is near natural environment according to Yeo. The feeds are made with 18 natural ingredients in fermentation mixed with more than 30% of mountain herbs and absolutely no GMO is used. The floor of the henhouse is layered with leaf mold and straws that decompose the droppings naturally. Thanks to this ‘6 No Policy’ – coloring, pesticides, auxetic, GMO, antibiotics and stress -, the King’s Farmers’ eggs are received as the best of the best eggs in Korea.

“We also deliver the eggs laid on the day straight to orderers on a daily basis in order to maintain the best freshness possible. Naturally, they are more expensive than the eggs on the shelves of super markets but the demand is rather increasing especially among consumers in big cities”

To push forward his success to a level high, Yeo is planning to launch a research center in the near future with a goal to build a scientific yet eco-friendly farming, packaging and delivering system.
