Cooking turns to excited learning for children and adults at Cook Kid’s Academy
Kim Eun-hyun, Director of Cook Kids Academy

Cook Kids Academy is a unique place where children can learn art, music and science with cooking materials. The director Kim Eun-hyun has had an extensive experience in children’s art and educational test projects in Korea as well as eco-friendly cooking recipes of natural fermentation and cheese in Italy. Back in Korea, she opened ‘The First House’, an Italian restaurant, grown today as one of the best restaurants in Daegu. The reason she established Cook Kids Academy last March was simple: to promote healthy food and eating habit for children and adults alike and to help small food business startups. All ingredients used at the academy are directly supplied from her parents who are farmers and Kim herself makes 16 kinds of sources. What makes the academy outstanding, however, comes from its unique curriculum in which children can accumulate their knowledge and experience and build friendship through making food.

Before establishing the academy, Kim completed 5 cooking courses for children through which she also found the lack of professionalism on the curriculum. So she boldly introduced the current experience-based programs covering from preparing ingredients and history to making with elements of math and science naturally melted into it. Alongside her excellent curriculum for children, Kim introduced an instructor’s program and recently has drawn a business agreement with the National Institute for Lifelong Education. It enabled Kim to run a first and second grade instructor’s courses for children’s cooking and after school learning.

The academy’s 3 class rooms, though seems rather little, provide whacking 50 courses according to its kind and purpose from baking, chocolatier and deserts to Korean, western, Chinese and Japanese with more than 70 recipes. Kim confidently recommends these unique cooking programs not only for those who wish to run an exciting food business but also for hobbyists.

Kim, who boasts a 17 years of experience in her field, is ambitious to extend the space of the academy in order to meet the ever increasing number of enthusiastic children and adult learners; she is about to open a 99 square meter space on the third floor of the head office building dividing the class rooms for children and instructors. This explosive response not only seems to ascribe to the unique curriculum but also to rational price and Kim’s down-to-earth educational philosophy.

3 instructors are taking care of a group of 10 children for each class and the cooking utensils and uniforms are prepared with the safety-first policy. Also, children who completed a course are given a letter of completion and the instructors of the academy an opportunity for work experience. It is also worth mentioning that the academy recently obtained a license for issuing a certificate for English cooking instructors. Taking the momentum, director Kim is making herself busy expanding her business to Seoul and Gyeonggi Province over Daegu.
