MOON STRENGTHENS DIMPLOMACY AND SECURITY

Moon appoints ambassadors to Russia, China, USA and Japan
President Moon has sworn-in four ambassadors to present South Korea in four powerful countries in the world: Woo Yoon-geun in Russia, Noh Young-min in China, Jo Yoon-jae in USA and Lee Su-hoon in Japan. Jo said “I am grateful to receive this important role and feel an immense responsibility. I will do my best for the Korean people and the national interest.” Lee said “I have built and maintained a good relationship with personal connections in Japan for the last 10 years. I will do my best to upgrade a level high of the Kim Dae Jung- Obuchi Joint Declaration on the occasion of the 20 year’s anniversary of the declaration next year.” Woo said “I feel a greater sense of responsibility and am willing devote myself to development of Korea-Russia relations.” Noh said “I have met many government officials and scholars in China. A Chinese government official said ‘what politicians said must be kept’ and I responded ‘let us leave behind what has been done and lay a new foundation for the new’. So I will do my best to build a new relationship in mutual cooperation.” Foreign Affair Minister Kang Kyung-wha said “I understand that the four powerful nations already know the capability and experience of the newly appointed. And I hope the ambassadors and staff of Korean foreign missions will do their best and work hard.”

Moon meets five top officials
President Moon had a luncheon with five top officials: the Speaker of the National Assembly Chung Sye-kyun, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Kim Myung-soo, the Acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Kim I-soo, the Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon and the Chairman of the National Election Commission Kim Yong-duk. Moon said “I think it’s been 3 month since I saw you last time in July. How time flies. I organized the meeting to congratulate the newly appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court but also to raise awareness on the grave importance of the national security. As you know already, Korea has not had a control over the national security issues but we can overcome as long as we work together in trust and consolidation. This is not an issue only to us but to the people of Korea as whole so we need to gather our strength in one mind.”
When it comes to national security, we have to work together regardless political parties and stance so I think establishing a permanent political cooperation body will greatly help gather national strength.”

Note: <Power Korea> “rewrites” the Korean article in English “concisely” for native English speakers and staff of foreign missions in Korea.
