<ART> Artist Park Jum-sun
“Open your world of imagination on my works”
‘People, the Reality and Nature’ exhibition opens channels for communication

“I feel my life valuable when I focus on creating something. I shift my inner feelings onto canvas. Everything changes. Life continues in cycle of pain and happiness…. And I am here, breathing at this very moment. My art is a means to reach abyss and infinity and I hope may works pour vitality into nature that is modified by reasons.” – Artist’s note –

Delivering message of human relationships and communications
‘Human’ is the main theme of artist Park Jum-sun. So her works give a greater focus on human relationships and communications. Her works <Gone with the Wind> in 2012 and <People, the Reality and Nature’ in 2015, for examples, expressed about the inner world of human. The former work in particular delivers her message of a continuous human relationship. Park says that she feels happy through idealistic communications between people. “We pursue different values but I feel in the deep down we are connected to one light. Time makes everything existent and all existents are part of our consciousness.” The exhibition to be held at Seoul Arts Center on 12 – 22 October this year will be not much different from her main theme on ‘nature and human’ except one person appears to one canvas only. She expressed the time as a stage and put a person on it. The virtual human appears on the work, however, plays the symbols of human in pain and joy. “I contrast our splendid joy with endless sadness of our life. So we all wear twinkly clothes. Like an actor acts monodrama, the single person on my work expresses all joys and pains of our life”

Stirring up one’s imagination by not giving a title to work
Park does not name her works. This is because she thinks the intension of artists must be about expression itself. Otherwise, the title blocks the imaginations of viewers. “Art is not only about creating beauty but also to shake the mind of viewers. So I hope that viewers can open their world of imagination on my works whether they are joy, disillusionment or human relationship.” Park loves to use grey and some people say her works are exotic for this reason. Each viewer has different feeling or interpretation from her works. Some say they are dreamlike and others sad or afraid. So Park takes each viewer’s opinion as it is in a way to communicate with them. Park expresses the four phases of our life - birth, old age, sickness and death - while makes a space in each work for viewers to image. “Joy means to give others what they want. For the realization of this communications, I hope my inner joy can be present in all my works.”

Positive interactions with viewers
Creating a work for Park is not a fast process as she gives a considerable amount of time to rich imagination and message of beautiful things. She also loves travel and rest from which she finds inspiration for her works. “I’m confident with my works but at the same time feel scarcity. I concentrate all my energy into work but once back to normal I just want to lead a truthful life by putting everything behind.” When asked about her works which will be exhibited this month, Park said “Nothing is forever and we are just part of nature. So I try to give a meaning to everything that is joyful even we cannot see. My works are not about one’s life but everybody’s with different moments so I hope viewers can share sympathy. Above all, I hope that my works can deliver happiness and truthful touch. I think I will not change my main theme on human.”
