[Stock] Segero TV CEO Kim Won-ki
Paying attention to emerging markets in Asia
Kim tours financial industry in Vietnam, Indonesia and China

Seeing the possibilities of emerging markets in Asia
As part of his tour of financial industry in emerging markets in Asia, Segero TV CEO Kim Won-ki first paid a visit to Vietnam last August. Vietnam has pushed forward ‘Doi Moi’, the open-door policy, since the unification. As a result, Vietnam saw a yearly 7% growth by the early 90s and numerous global companies have been scrambling to get the best seats and the competition has turned Vietnam as an emerging market in Asia. During his two week visit, Kim met CEO of Saigon Securities Inc., one of the three securities firms in Vietnam, who invited him as a sole Korean stock investor to a global forum which will be held in Vietnam this October. The forum is to invite renowned industry officials and specialists and is expected to demonstrate the growth potential of Vietnam. Kim said “The per capita GDP of Vietnam is USD$2,000. The recent increase in incomes and urban population has encouraged growth potential in consumer goods and financial market. It is also notable that the average age of the 100 million populations of Vietnam is about 30.”

Indonesia follows the visit to Vietnam
“Indonesia could grow like China”

After the visit to Vietnam, Kim moved to Indonesia which is attracting the largest attention from securities investors of the world. Korean investors are also moving fast entering the market at the moment. The reason Indonesia is coming into the center stage of attention is because the market is big enough to cover the whole populations of the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. In fact, Indonesia boasts the largest economic block among the ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations). The buoyancy of the market is affecting positively the government’s policy for activation of private investments and it is expected to boost up growth of private enterprises as well as the market expansion up to early next year. It is notable that the lowest dropped stock market in August saw a rebound over September. Kim attended a meeting with local securities firms held at Indonesia Stock Exchange Building and studied the local companies that are leading the local economy. “Service industry takes 1/3 of the whole industries in Indonesia followed by manufacturing industry. The latter, however, seems to have a bigger potential to grow while the revitalization of domestic economy can also contribute to an advance. Kim said that the government’s direct support policy can grow Indonesia like China.

Kim closes tour at Shanghai
“I saw a future direction of China”

Since the open-door policy in the 70s, China has grown rapidly and made their voice in the global market. Despite the recent slowdown of the economic growth, China in fact has already grown as the economic powerhouse. Kim has made a great emphasis on Chinese market for many years at his free lectures on stock investment. The visit to Shanghai, in this respect, was an opportunity for Kim to see the potential of China and its future direction. China’s recent improvement on business performance also can be interpreted to keep boosting up its economic growth. When asked about his impressions on Shanghai, the financial center of China, Kim said “I saw a future direction of China.”
