The answer to conflict and confrontation in Korean society comes from deregulation and activation of business investment!
Chairman Park Yoo-jae of ENEX

Current economic stagnation comes from excessive regulations
Four months have passed since the Moon Administration set sail. Yet the seed of the social conflict is still burning. The conservatives are confronting the progressives, the right wings against the left wings and the older generation against the younger generation. How can we stich up the torn clothes and make a social advancement? Chairman Park Yoo-jae, the founder of ENEX, suggests to find the root cause of the conflict first and to move onto solutions step by step. “Korean people have continued a war of attrition for the last 30 years. And the attrition has affected negatively the advancement of the national economy. The prolonged conflict between the generation which led the industrialization in the 70s and 80s and the generation which led the democratization in the 90s is one of the main causes of the newly coined the term ‘hell Korea’ indicating the young Koreans in their 20s and 30s today.” The young Koreans call themselves ‘hell Korean generation’ and they are angry about the fact that higher education and a number of certificates are no longer helpful in finding a job anymore. Jobless makes marriage out of option and subsequently having a child or a house disappears beyond their plan. But the situation is more serious than we thought; the advent of the ‘N Generation’. They literally give up everything from going out, marriage, and children to house, career, hobby and relationships, you name it. And it all started from the fact that there is no job.

Since the civilian government in 1987, the conservative party and the progressive party controlled the Blue House by turns. The ruling party condemned the previous regime’s self-righteousness and tried to clean up the long existing abuse of the power. The opposition party, on the other hand, categorically refused what ruling party was pushing forward. Blind welfare policies were brought up carelessly in return of securing the votes and the illegal strike of the unions as well as excessive regulations made business investment difficult. The companies relocated the factories to overseas and it caused high unemployment rate and economic slowdown domestically, according to Park. He points out that just one company can have a larger-than-anticipated impact on the whole national economy. The manufacturing industry is the driving force of economy and the service industry can only be prospering based on this. One manufacturing company can generate many jobs as it requires many necessary areas: securing capital and office building and factories, machines and equipment, electricity, R&D center, market research, product design, production workers, original materials, storage, distribution, accounting, tax, human resource, legal team and inspection, etc. The company also has to work together in cooperation with partners and sub-contractors. In other words, one manufacturing company can create a considerable number of jobs and added values. For this reason, Park urges the government and the National Assembly to correctly recognize the operating system of economy if they are to create jobs. Without economic power, Park continues, the foreign policies and national defense can only be a visionary project which soon collapses. Park suggest to make the most of the roles of associations to appeal their needs and wants to the government and the National Assembly in order to achieve what they want and also to improve agreeable investment environment in our society through effective deregulations.

Let us overcome crisis with dialogue and consideration to others, and challenges and passion!
Through a number of interviews and contributions to newspapers, Park has emphasized on the need of ‘Four Core Value Balanced Developments’: ‘economic affluence’, ‘mental health’, ‘social justice’ and ‘democratic freedoms’; it summarizes that the government encourages investment of companies to create jobs and added values and this way the national wealth and agreeable society can be achieved. “First of all, the government should deregulate and reduce corporate tax to raise global competitiveness of Korean companies. This way we can invite back the foreign investments and the Korean companies operating overseas. Also, the government and the ruling party should minimize the cleaning up of the abuse of power done by the previous regimes to break out of the vicious circle and focus all our energy instead on national development. The National Assembly should bring up laws that encourage investments instead of more regulations. Both the ruling and opposition parties should work together to help the management and the labor to prevent any illegal strikes.” Park added “The Moon Administration needs courage to abolish their election pledges if they are found unrealistic. Also, the ruling party should listen to the opposition party and the opposition party should bring up rational policies as alternatives of the ruling party’s instead of a blanket opposition. This way, the people can see their dream and hope will come true.” Park points out creating foundations for a great leap forward instead of performance-focused as more important while advises for the ‘hell Korean generation’ to take a time to learn the wisdom of their parents who have gone through much harsher environment than now with hard work and devotion.

Back then in the 60s, Korea was one of the poorest countries on earth. Many Koreans were dispatched to Germany to earn bread and butter by working as miners and nurses in harsh environment. Yet the foreign currency earned during the period became the foundation for Korea to surprise the world with unprecedented speed of growth and development. There is not a single job that gives you easy money or a fast success. Focus your energy on what you can do now then you will one day be a professional in the field and enjoy a bigger success than you imagined. This is the advice of the chairman Park Yoo-jae who wrote a new history of the Korean kitchenette industry and has made the brand ‘ENEX’ recognized in the world.
