문재인 대통령, 뉴욕 금융·경제인과의 대화
문재인 대통령은 지난 20일 뉴욕에서 세계 금융의 핵심 리더들을 비롯해 200여명의 금융·기업인들을 만나 한국 경제에 대해 설명하는 자리를 가졌다. 문 대통령은 해외 투자자들에게 새 정부의 경제 정책과 현안에 대해 직접 설명하고 질의응답을 통해 의견을 나눴다.
문 대통령은 “한국 경제는 위기를 겪을 때마다 오히려 더욱 강해지면서 눈부신 경제발전을 이루었다”며 한국 투자에 적극 나서줄 것을 당부했다. 이와 함께 북핵 문제에 대해서도 질문이 이어졌다. 문 대통령은 “일부 언론에 북핵 리스크로 한국 경제가 불안한 것처럼 보도된 것을 본 적이 있는데 전혀 그렇지 않습니다. 한국 경제는 북핵 도발에도 불구하고 전혀 흔들리지 않고 견실하게 성장하고 있습니다. 북핵 리스크에 가장 민감하게 반응하는 주식시장만 하더라도 올해 꾸준히 상승하여 연초 대비 19%p 상승했고, 북한 6차 핵실험 이후에도 오히려 주가가 2.3%p 올랐습니다.”라고 밝혔다. 또 문 대통령은 “미국과 트럼프 대통령 역시 국제사회와 함께 북한을 굴복시키기 위해 최고의 제재와 압박, 그리고 외교적·평화적 노력에 총력을 기울이고 있기 때문에 한국 경제는 전혀 문제될 것이 없다”고 자신감을 피력했다.
외국인 투자환경 조성과 관련해서도 문 대통령은 “새 정부의 경제개혁·재벌개혁·공정개혁이 기업 활동을 제약하거나 반기업적 경제철학을 의미하지 않는다”며 “더 공정하고 투명한 경제 생태계를 만드는 것이 기업하기 더 좋은 나라를 만드는 길”이라고 설명했다. 이것만으로도 한국 경제의 잠재성장률을 몇 퍼센트는 끌어올릴 수 있고, 한국 새 정부가 이런 정책을 펴는 지금이 한국을 믿고 투자할 때이며, 한국 투자를 주저할 필요가 전혀 없다고 강조했다.

문재인 대통령, 2017년도 ‘세계시민상’ 수상
문재인 대통령은 지난 19일 저녁 ‘아틀란틱 카운슬’(Atlantic Council)이 주관하는 ‘세계시민상(Global Citizen Award)’ 시상식에 참석해 2017년도 ‘세계시민상’을 수상했다. ‘세계시민상’은 미국의 저명한 싱크탱크인 아틀란틱 카운슬(Atlantic Council)이 국제사회가 당면한 문제 해결에 기여하고, 세계 시민의식을 구현한 인사들에게 매년 수여하는 상으로, 케리 美 국무장관(2011), 라가르드 IMF 총재(2011), 키신저 前 미 국무장관(2012), 아베 日 총리(2016) 등도 수상한 바 있다. 한국인으로는 문재인 대통령이 처음 수상하게 되었다.
아틀란틱 카운슬은 문재인 대통령이 인권 변호사로서 민주주의와 인권 신장을 위해 노력해 왔고, 북한의 위협에 대응하여 한반도 긴장 완화와 역내 안정에 노력하고 있는 점 등을 높이 평가하여 이 상을 수여한다고 선정 배경을 설명했다. 올해 2017년도에는 문재인 대통령과 함께 트뤼도 캐나다 총리, 중국 피아니스트 랑랑이 함께 상을 수상했다.
문재인 대통령은 수상 소감을 통해 이 상은 ‘문재인’ 개인이 받는 것이 아니라 촛불혁명으로 민주주의를 지켜낸 한국의 촛불시민들을 대신해 받는 것이라며, 대한민국 국민들의 열정을 바탕으로 성숙한 민주주의를 이룩하고 국제사회의 민주주의 발전에 기여해 나가겠다고 밝혔다.

President Moon met 200 world financial and business leaders on September 20 in New York and presented the Moon Administration’s economic policies. Moon said “Korea’s economy grew faster and stronger in time of hardship so I ask you to make active investment. Some media worries about S. Korea’s economy due to the North constant threat but S. Korea’s economy has never been shaken by the threat but only growing day by day. The KOSPI, for example, has seen a 19% growth on the first quarter of the year and 2.3% increase after the North’s 6th nuclear test.” Moon added “Mr. Trump and the United States are also pushing forward the harshest sanctions on North and there will be no risks in making investment in S. Korea… The Moon Administration’s reforms on economy, conglomerates and fair trade are not designed against businesses but only for building transparent and fairer trade through which S. Korea can provide better business environment for companies. So there is no reason you have to hesitate to make an investment in S. Korea.”

Moon receives ‘Global Citizen Award’
President Moon received ‘Global Citizen Award’ hosted by Atlantic Council on September 19. The award is given to those who have made contributions to solving international issues and to promoting spirits of global citizens. Some of the previous receivers of the award are the Former U.S. Secretary of the State John Kerry (2011), the IMF director Wilfried Lagarde (2011), the Former U.S. Secretary of the State Henry Alfred Kissinger (2012) and the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (2016). President Moon is the first Korean to receive the award for making contributions to promoting democracy as a human rights lawyer and to easing the tension in the Korean Peninsula. The Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and the Chinese pianist Lang Land received the award alongside Moon this year. In the acceptance speech, Moon said that he received the award on behalf of the people of S. Korea who took the street with candles in harsh cold winter for democracy and he would exert his effort in development of democracy of the international society.
