30 years of expertise in automation meets the idea of ‘pressure cooker heating’

The convenience of ramen noodle is in inverse proportion to the gooeyness of the noodle. We pour hot water into a cup ramen to cook the noodle but some people put it in a microwave to add gooeyness to the noodle. The ramen vending machines appeared soon after this trend did not satisfy the cooking time and safety of the containers. In this respect, the advent of an instant ramen vending machine that cooks a ramen in 1 and a half minute with gooeyness intact is but encouraging. 

Hyun Sung ENG CEO Choi Jae-bin and One Minute Food System CEO Choi Jung-hwan, who also is a technical advisor and developer, released the vending machine in July this year and they said that the secrete of the machine is at ‘pressure cooker’. 

Choi Jung-hwan has made and supplied automated facilities to major companies for the last 30 years and obtained a number of patents. He was brooding over the development of vending machine from 3 years ago and launched a research with the fact that rice tastes better when cooked in a pressure cooker 9 months ago. The result was the instant ramen vending machine. The pressure of the heat lets hot water instilled into the noodle before swelling and the elasticity of the noodle lasts about 20 minutes. Also, you can adjust the harness of noodle and the spiciness of broth according to your preference and the containers are made of paper instead of foil or vinyl for safety. Choi says that a vending machine costs you about 13 million won ($11,479) but you can recover the money within several months or a year at the longest.

12,000 tasters praise the all air system and smart phone connection

Choi points out ‘all air system’ as the most important innovation of the vending machine. The air-centered operation does not require machinery parts like lubricant oil, bearing, gear and belt so there is no malfunction but it has longer life span. It is also hygienically good. The heater in the vending machine is land reclamation type which is safer than normal vending machines and the device installed in the machine automatically cuts the power when the temperature goes up the limited line. The fire plate is located under the pressure cooker made of stainless steel and the coated surface does not allow any remains of the food which makes it hygienic. The pressure cooker also keeps the temperature at 90°C and the ultraviolet lamp kills the bacteria at all times. 

The vending machine can be connected to smart phone through IoT so that the owner of the machine can check up the status in real time from the app on the smart phone. Thanks to the innovation of the machine, 12,000 visitors of the Korea International Noodle Expo held in Seoul, Busan and Daegu experienced the innovation and Chois drew surprising 350 contracts with buyers as a result.

Choi says that the pressure cooker vending machine is the first case in the world. He has obtained 9 patents related to this innovative vending machine. Taking the momentum, he currently is working on development of kimchi vending machine which will be followed by pizza, hamburger and black noodle thanks to his already secured original technologies. Also, he is planning to build effective after sales service system by direct selling the machines to consumers. 

You can pay with cash or by credit card to use the ramen vending machine and it takes only a small space which makes it ideal to be installed any places such as concert hall, hospital, PC room, park, resting place or bus terminal. It can also be installed in a food truck that can sell instant ramen by traveling 1,300 festivals held yearly nationwide. 

Taking the momentum, Kim is introducing a new model at the Korea International Noodle Expo held for 3 days from 9 September at COEX and he is confident to be the No.1 instant ramen vending machine supplier through quality taste and high standard safety and hygiene management. The Choi family (father and son) is also ambitious to pioneer overseas markets in Japan and China, where people widely enjoy noodles, as well as Russia, by using the advantage of the Trans-Siberian Express, through active participation in overseas expos.
