<Power Interview / Samsung Fire Choi Gyu-sung RA>
“Time and effort bring a success”
Choi becomes the first RA to achieve M-grade with the title ‘The Best Insurer’

Choi becomes the first RA to achieve M-grade with the title ‘The Best Insurer’

Many insurers give a considerable amount of time for sales and customer relations externally and training and induction internally. There are many mountains to climb over in order for an insurer to be a financial consultant and one must win the fight with oneself. Having gone through all of these gates of hardship, the financial consultant gets the title ‘queen’ or ‘master’ and the pride he/she must feel cannot compare with anything else.

Samsung Fire’s Gangnam 1st Branch Choi Gyu-sung RA (Risk Advisor) also went through all those gates and became the first RA to achieve M-grade with the title ‘The Best Insurer’. Not only is he capable of fire insurance but also life insurance as well as card and stock services provided by his through management on risk, investment and spending. His talent as an insurer has brought a number of the top prizes and he has become the envy of his colleague as well as the support.

Choi majored in economy and trade and engaged in trade after graduation. He also ran his own clothes business ‘Red Queen’. It was a turning point when he met his aunt who introduced him the world of RC (Risk Consultant) and he made himself as successful as today within 3 years.

“I started the clothes business with passion without experience so it was natural for me to taste a failure. Having stepped into the world of insurance, I grew day by day under the instruction of Kim Chil-ki RC, who then boasted 11 years of experience in the field. I also learned a lot about the vision from the lecturer Han Sang-wook” says Choi in retrospect.

Choi made daily tasks to achieve and poured his effort in self-management. Many days, he arrived to the work at half past seven in the morning and went back home 1am not to mention working on weekends. Gradually, he could see his performance growing month by month and his monthly 3 million won ($2,671) earning became 7 million won within a year and 10 million won from the second year.

Transparency and trust are the driving forces of success

“During my clothing business, I met a lot of people and I became natural to meet and talk with people. Looking back, it helped me a lot for me to be who I am today as my job involves communication and interaction with people.”

Choi values transparency and trust very high in terms of customer relations. He always makes a memo of the guidelines of the company and put them in practice. Sometime, there are clients who ask Choi whether he could pay one month insurance premium instead. He then says “I am a person who sells financial knowledge to my clients and I pour a lot of time and effort to deliver helpful knowledge and information. You had better make the most of my knowledge for bigger benefit you might possibly make in the future.”

If needed, he opens his fee per contract as long as that can make him trustworthy. For this reason, it is not that surprising to know that Choi is the highest earner and grade holder within his group. However, he regrets to win the silver prize only at Rookie Award 2016 that is given to top performers of the last 2 years. This was because there was a 3 month gap and Choi was automatically tossed to the challenger group. He reckons that he might win the challenger but he needs to improve the induction. So he plans to challenge again late this year as he believes that sales and induction go together.

To be remembered as a great insurer

“My job as an insurer is to help people manage their finance against unexpected incidents and situations. In a way, an insurer save a life from financial difficulty like a doctor saves a life from diseases or physical damages. Also, the charm of being an insurer is that the harder you work the more you earn. So I feel really satisfied and proud of what I do.”

Choi continues “The RA Group of Samsung Fire is consisted of people in their 20s with a university degree including the current students. It runs training programs like a military academy and this stands out the group from others. I actually finished a university in China and attended classes run by Harvard professors. But I was surprised to find that the training programs of the RA Group more practical and helpful. The atmosphere also is very friendly despite the strict training programs but you must be a punctual and hard working person.”

Choi adds “There is a law of 8:2. 2 out of 10 are normally outstanding. I think the same applies to insurance industry. People might think that being an insurer is one of the hardest jobs but it really depends on how you do it. Of course the harder you work the higher you go. I think life, in a way, is a series of challenges and the moment you get this you will feel you are the owner of your life.”

With his success well on the tract, Choi married 4 month ago and try hard with a sense of responsibility to make his marriage life happy. ‘Put yourself in the other’s shoes’ has been the long time chant of Choi with which he build all human relationships.

Recently, he began studying of corporate consulting. “I found that the members of the managing board of a company don’t know much about the importance of CEO plan, group insurance and fire insurance. So I will deepen my knowledge in the field to bring comprehensive service plans for them in the future.

When asked about his dream, Cho said “I want to be remembered as a great insurer of Samsung Fire.”
