Introducing healthy floor heating system with excellent cost saving
CEO Jung Man-su of Eco-Friendly Dry Ondol (floor heating system)

Traditional wisdom combined with modern technology
Koreans started to use ferroconcrete to erect buildings and houses from the 70s. And the materials drew more number of houses per unit area but it has become the main cause of heat loss and the floor noise issue that sometimes led to a conflict between the neighbors. The gas boiler heating system, introduced around that time, also did not solve the heat loss issues as it was based on wet pipe method.

In this respect, the eco-friendly dry ondol system is but a welcome method as it not only saves the heating bill but also solves the noise problem. CEO Jung Man-su of Eco-Friendly Dry Ondol has devoted 40 years of his life to the construction industry. He came to realize a considerable amount of heat loss in raising the temperature above 18¡É and succeeded in developing the dry ondol system 14 years ago by combining the traditional floor heating method and the modern hot water piping.

This new method allows the hot water pipes to be laid in the assembly blocks with insulator inside to cover the face but without filling up the gaps with cement so that the heat is delivered without a loss. Also, the method reduced the noise and resonance of the cement by 6-21dB and it can prevent the harmful substances from being absorbed into materials. In addition, the bio-ceramic material delivers 8-11§f far-infrared radiation that has an eco-friendly oscillating wave to help our body release waste and promote metabolism, blood purification, immunity and autonomic neuromodulation. Another good feature is that it prevents moisture under the linoleum as well as mold.

Recognition and certificates
Eco-Friendly Dry Ondol passed the test carried out the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and was proved to reduce heating bill by 35% and to solve the floor noise issues. Also, it endures more than 15 tons of gravity and is compatible with monolithic construction. This means that you do not need to remove the floor to repair the part as you can dissemble and then reassemble it.

Ondol is standard 15cm thick and its even surface makes builders’ job easy and convenient. The dry ondol Jung developed especially is consisted of ondol face, XL pipe, heat conduction sheet, pipe block and 3K silver foil. Jung also reduced the construction procedure to 6 stages (sound proof, assembly, installation, piping, face work and finish) to make things simple and easy. The 30mm thinner slabs than cement method, on the other hand, keeps the heat for a while even after the boiler is turned off and it can reheat the floor within 5 to 10 minutes. For this reason, Jung’s innovative method is being widely used in various building sites.

Jung registered Eco-Friendly Dry Ondol as Design No. 30-0741847 and obtained an environment certificate from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute in 2005. The company also was designated as a quality guaranteed enterprise by the Korea Testing & Research Institute in 2006.

Jung’s innovation did not stop there. He added phytoncide in the materials and created a wellbeing sensation in the dry ondol market. It is notable that Jung’s effort has not only brought an innovation to the floor heating systems but also to eco-friendly living environment as well as settling down the floor noise issues.
