“힐링과 나눔이 이뤄지는 참 교육의 장이 되길 바랍니다”
지난 4월 22일, 경기도 수원시 권선구에 위치한 CES창조역량연구소의 개소식이 열렸다. 지난 2015년 7월 1일부터 운영되며 자신의 자원을 자발적으로 기부하는 아름다운 생명문화의 가치를 연구해 온 CES창조역량연구소는 그간 확장되어 온 연구 영역과 축적된 인적·물적 인프라를 기반으로 연구소 내 시설을 재정비함으로써 보다 체계화·특성화 된 연구·교육시설로서의 도약의 발판을 마련하게 되었다. 총 4층 규모로 재정비된 연구소의 1층과 2층에는 수원시 사회지원 서비스(바우처)의 일환으로 미술·음악·인지·학습·비전·독서·신체·놀이치료 등을 수행할 수 있는 교실이 마련되어 있으며, 3층과 4층에는 성인 30명을 수용할 수 있는 큰 규모의 강의실이 구비되어 있어 다양한 교육과정을 진행하는 것이 가능하다. 또한 1층에는 CES교육신문, 나눔출판사 등의 사무실과 방문객들의 휴식을 위한 작은 카페 테라스가 준비되어 있다.
前 강남대 경영부총장 배장오 교수의 축사와 함께 진행된 개소식에서 CES창조역량연구소를 이끌고 있는 방영숙 소장은 “오랜 세월 교육현장에서 경험한 모든 것들을 토양으로 삼아 지역사회의 모든 분들과 함께 희망을 설계하며 나눌 수 있는 연구소가 되고자 노력해왔습니다. 이번 개소식을 통해 저희 연구소가 힐링과 나눔이 이뤄지는 참 교육의 장이 되길 바랍니다”라고 말했다. 방영숙 소장은 25년여 간 유아교육현장에 있으면서 교육에 대한 끊임없는 열정과 도전으로 60이 넘은 나이에 교육학 박사 학위를 취득한 바 있으며, 평생교육을 시작으로 삶의 가치와 의미는 무엇이며, 인생은 어떻게 살아야 하는가에 대한 고민을 늘 논의해 온 교육·심리상담 전문가다. 「누구나 쉽게 하는 코칭」, 「노인상담 심리학」 외 다수의 저서를 출간한 바 있으며, 지난 2016년에는 노년을 맞이한 이들에 대한 격려를 담은 수필집 「노년의 길목을 바라보는 친구들이여」를 출간해 사회에 따뜻한 반향을 불러일으키기도 했다. 또한, 방 소장은 남서울대학교에 오는 2018년 개설될 교육복지학과(학부·대학원)의 교육을 수행하며 후대양성에도 힘쓸 계획이다. 교육복지학과는 산학협력을 통해 기업맞춤형 인재를 양성하기 위한 계약학과의 형태로 개설될 예정이며, 탄력적인 수업 진행과 일반학과보다 낮은 등록금 책정으로 다른 직종에 종사하고 있는 사람이라도 부담 없이 수강할 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 석사 과정의 경우 평생교육사 자격증을 취득할 수 있다는 강점을 가진다.

미래에 대한 희망, 인생에 대한 의미를 발견하다
CES창조역량연구소에서 수행하는 교육은 크게 4가지로 나뉜다. 첫 번째 「생애주기별 역량강화 교육」에서는 LIFE 진로, 타임스케줄, 비전, 커뮤니케이션, U&ME바로 알기, 에너지강화교육, 직무소양교육, SELF 리더십, 위기갈등극복교육 등이 이뤄지며, 두 번째 「생명 나눔 문화 교육」에서는 기부 나눔 문화 교육, 생태 영성 교육, 재능 기부, 생명 나눔 교육, 품위 있는 임종 준비교육 등이 이뤄진다. 이는 ‘나’에 대한 이해가 부족함으로써 생기는 현대인들의 수많은 문제들을 올바르게 해결하고, 삶의 가치와 생명의 중요성, 함께하는 것에 대한 소중함을 깨닫기 위한 것이다. 세 번째는 「교육 전문가 역량강화 교육」으로서 각각 청소년, 성인, 실버세대를 대상으로 교육을 수행하는 전문가들의 역량을 강화하기 위한 과정이 펼쳐지며, 네 번째 「참 사람 인성 교육」에서는 예비 부모교육, 부모교육, 조부모교육, 효 문화 교육, 인성교육, 감성 커뮤니케이션 교육 등 현대 사회를 살아가며 우리가 부여받게 되는 수많은 역할에 대해 어떻게 하면 이를 올바르게 잘 수행할 수 있는지, 그리고 다른 사람과의 관계에서 생긴 갈등을 어떻게 회복하며, 보다 나은 관계로 만들어갈 수 있는지를 알려준다. 
방 소장은 “요즘 사람들은 심각한 불안과 우울증, 무기력함에 시달리고 있습니다. 이러한 현상의 가장 큰 원인은 바로 자기 삶에 대한 의미와 가치를, 그리고 타인과의 관계에서 오는 정신적인 충족감을 만족시키지 못했기 때문입니다”라고 설명했다. 그가 연구소를 설립하고, 각 지역단체 및 기관 등을 오가며 열성적인 활동을 펼치고 있는 이유는 바로 이러한 상처를 안고 살아가는 이들을 치유하고 보듬기 위해서이다. 방 소장은 “연구소를 통해 생애주기별 역량강화교육을 지속적으로 펼쳐나갈 계획이며, CES교육신문은 평생교육을 위한 소통의 장으로서 역할을 다할 생각입니다. 또한 나눔출판사를 통하여 그간의 연구를 출간하고, 이것이 사회에 기부와 나눔의 문화를 확산시키는 계기가 될 수 있도록 노력하고자 합니다”라며, CES창조역량연구소가 지역사회에 빛과 소금이 되길 소망한다고 전했다. 각박하고 힘든 현대사회를 살아가는 이들에게 희망의 메시지를 전하고 있는 방영숙 소장의 열정이 대한민국 국민들의 마음속에 따뜻한 생명의 씨앗을 심을 수 있게 되길 바란다.

“I hope the center will be an educational place of healing and sharing”

The opening ceremony of the CES Creative Capability Research Center took place in Gwonseon District in Suwon City on 22 April this year. The center started operation from 1 July 2015 and carried on researches on values of donating one’s resources and its beautiful living culture. The center recently gathered its accumulated research results and manpower as well as facilities to open a more systematic and specialized research center. 

It is a 4 storey building with the first and second floors used for art, music, cognition, learning, vision, reading, physical activities and play therapy while the third and fourth floors for large lecture rooms with necessary facilities that can accommodate up to 30 adults. The first floor also has a café terrace and offices of The CES Education Newspaper and Nanum Publishing. 

Director Bang Young-sook of the CES Creative Capability Research Center said in her opening speech on the ceremony “The center has been working hard to plan and share hope with people of all walks of life based on its experience in the educational fields. I hope the center will be a place where people can exchange the energy of healing and sharing.”

Bang has worked as a children’s education specialist for the last 25 years. Her passion and challenging spirit brought her a PhD in education in her 60s and she, as an educator and psychology consultant, has always tried to find answers for meaning and value of life and how we should lead our lives. 

She wrote a number of books such as ‘The Coaching Everybody Can Do’ and ‘Psychology for Elderly Counseling’. The book ‘For Friends Who Are Getting Old’ released in 2016 in particular created a resonance in our society for the contents that encourages aging people in our society.

Finding hope for future and meaning of life

The CES Creative Capability Research Center runs educational programs in 4 categories: Life Cycle Empowerment, Life Sharing Culture, Education Specialists Empowerment and Personality Education. Life Cycle Empowerment is designed for career path, time schedule, vision, communication, U&ME, energy strengthening, aptitude, self-leadership and risk management. Life Sharing Culture is designed for sharing and talent donation, ecology and spirit and preparation of dignified death. Education Specialists Empowerment is designed for strengthening capabilities of teachers and lecturers. Personality Education is designed for education on parents, grandparents, filial piety, personality and emotional communication through which people can improve their ability to make a better relationship with others. 

“Many people are suffering from serious anxiety, depression and lethargy. This is because they lack in spiritual self-fulfillment in the meaning and value of their lives as well as relationship with others.”

The reason Bang opened the center and has been actively engaged in social activities is because she wants to provide a helping hand to the people like them. “I will push forward the Life Cycle Empowerment program and the center will keep functioning as a place of communication and life-long learning. Also, the center’s Nanum Publishing will gather our research results in a book that can play a part in spreading donation and sharing culture to our society.” 

Bang added that the center will play the role of light and salt and deliver messages of hope to all busy modern people.
