‘A best cup’ of flavor stirs up the Korean coffee market
Lee Joon-yong, president of Coffee Exchange Co.
Direct transaction and forward bargain supply coffee beans of excellent cost effectiveness.

Korea’s coffee market has passed over a growth phase to the gentrification and diversification. Explosive increase of franchise coffee house for the past decade has been partially replaced by distinctive coffee houses with characteristics and unique flavors of their own. Among them, popularity of  ‘specialty coffee’ is setting a new trend for upgrading domestic coffee culture. It is fixed with a high-rank machine after roasting a high-quality green coffee of a particular producing center with its own flavor.
Coffee Exchange Co. is distinguishing itself in the growing specialty coffee market. Coffee Exchange has made efforts to cultivate foreign coffee bean markets, imports and domestic supply in order for all the people in Korea to enjoy specialty coffee more easily. The company is known to have introduced the concept of ‘Total Process Control,’ which includes the environment of planation, management, harvesting process, transport, storage and production, to supply quality coffee beans for the first time in Korea. Lee Joon-yong, president of Coffee Exchange, clarified, “We have secured a network to supply specialty coffee beans stably by forming partnership with major coffee producing centers and enterprises of producing best materials of green beans and have steadily participated in ICE forward bargain market to maintain long-term coffee prices.” The biggest characteristic of all is that the company verifies the samples of coffee beans produced in each area of the world and then selects only excellent quality of beans to receive supply through direct transaction with the producer. This is not easy because it is almost impossible for an individual operator, not a global large enterprise, to secure a network for global coffee beans. President Lee Joon-yong from a global financial company has carried out communication with coffee bean producers overseas based on a vast global information network filed up so far and established the system of receiving supply of top-quality green beans under a stable standard of prices. Currently, they are carrying out direct transaction with over ten coffee producers, including Ethiopia, Brazil and Papua New Guinea, with the reputation of contributing to the spread of domestic specialty coffee market by providing top-quality beans for customers in reasonable prices.

“Will be a good company enough to challenge the global market.”
Truly, domestic coffee market has been monopolized by some large franchises because it was hard for small coffee houses to receive supply of high-quality beans and because high prices made it difficult to maintain stable earning rates. Accordingly, Coffee Exchange launched the specialty roasting coffee brand of CIA (Coffee Intelligent Agent). ‘CIA’, three types of product provided in reasonable prices through direct transaction with original home, has been developed after the efforts of numerous trials and errors and R&D. CIA001 combines medium-full body with dark chocolate perfume in harmony of strong sweet and soft bitter, while CIA002 in harmony between sweet aroma of nuts and tasty brown sugar with the sour taste of berries makes impressive balance and has the nickname of ‘walnut pie.’ CIA characterized by bright, gorgeous floweriness and acidity of fresh fruit has attraction of creamy medium body and aftertaste of silent citrus flavor remaining in the mouth after drinking.  Especially, the coffee of Coffee Exchange is well known among specialists because it receives a bigger response and recognition from professional baristas.
CIA of Coffee Exchange is being delivered to major government offices in Gyunggi-do and successfully sold to coffee houses which want more special coffee taste. If you can see the sign of Coffee Exchange in the coffee house you visit, it means being able to taste the supreme coffee supplied by them. Helped by the growth in domestic market, Coffee Exchange is distinguishing itself in exports to the US and other countries, and recently, it became a topic when ‘Coffee Central by Coffee Exchange’ opened at Central Station, Hong Kong, turned out to be the shop consulted by them. President Lee Joon-yong clarified, “Coffee is the best relax and pleasure filled with perfume. We are always giving our best efforts to present the best cup to customers.”
Also, shops to want transaction with Coffee Exchange or the existing Franchise shops can receive the same management as franchise. This is receiving much response because it makes up for the drawback of franchise trade which has a large burden of joining fee or materials and relatively low independence.
President Lee Joon-yong says that he is planning to advance to retail market in the latter half of this year to make a closer relationship to ordinary consumers and open an offline store, too. It is expected that their passion and challenge toward the best cup will bear a worthy fruit.
