Pouring one’s soul into constructing great buildings
“Employees are my biggest asset and treasure”
Chairman Kim Chan-ho of Haedong Group

Haedong World Tower and Haedong Central Tower rise as landmarks of Yangju City
Haedong One Tower soon to erect in Millak District 2 in Uijeongbu City

Chairman Kim Chan-ho of Haedong Group gained much fame by building Haedong World Tower and Haedong Central Tower (twin towers) in Uijeongbu despite the prolonged economic hardship in Korea. Headquartered in Yonghyun-dong, Uijeongbu, Haedong Group (encompassing textile, trade, construction and industrial development) has secured acclaimed technologies and achieved a significant increase in export volumes. Taking the momentum, Kim successfully has built the twin towers again in Yangju City and turned them as landmarks of the city.

The world tower boasts 10,277.19§© floor area, 1,218.90§© plottage and 841.57§© building area with 2 floors underground and 10 floors above. The building is designed for commercial use and facilitated resting areas. The central tower, on the other hand, boasts 10,1427§© floor area, 1,312.90§© plottage and 916.17§© building area.

The head office tower is located on the border of Millak Districts 1 and 2 of the central commercial zone in Uijeongbu and has excellent accessibility and visibility. It boasts 3,192§³ plottage, 2,229.1§³ building area and 35,909.45§³ floor area with 10 floors above ground and 5 floors underground. The building especially is applied with seismic design that endures 8.0-magnitude earthquake.

Kim recently has secured yet another site for a new commercial building (Haedong One Tower) that will provide convenience and additional facilities with sophisticated design. The one tower will boast 6,132.60§³ plottage, 4,283.06§³ building area and 80,227.81§³ floor area inviting commercial, cultural and neighborhood facilities. It will be 10 floors above ground and 7 to 8 floors underground and the first to sixth floors are expected to be used as NC Department Store while the seventh to the tenth as cinema, sales vendors and offices. It is expected to be a landmark of Uijeongbu when completed in 2020.

“You can achieve what you want if you have passion and work hard”
“Employees are my biggest asset and treasure”

Kim used to be a countryman of Jeongeup and stepped into construction industry on the occasion of remodeling Dongjin Textile in 1994. From bare hands to be the chairman of Haedong Group, he is praised as a self-made man by many people around him.

“For all those years, I realized and put into practice my chant ‘employees are my biggest asset and treasure’. And I have kept my belief that ‘you can achieve what you want if you have passion and work hard” says Kim.

With his accumulated knowledge and experience in the textile industry, he started to run his own business in 1981 and made a significant process to grow as an export company. But when the IMF his Korea in 1997, he also suffered from hardship and found a gate-out by expanding the business scope to construction from which the name Haedong started to spread.

“Winners are those who never give up. But what is more important as CEO of a company is that one must have work ethic that he/she is responsible for all employees. There will be no CEOs and companies without employees or people who work in cooperation.”

Serving as president of Korea Disaster Relief in 2014
Receiving gold prize from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen

Kim took in charge of the Korea Disaster Relief in March 2014 and volunteered when the Sewol ferry disaster occurred to provide bean curd and soybean milk to the families of the victims and supporters. He also donated 200 million won ($200,000) on behalf of the Korea Disaster Relief in March the same year.

His volunteer activities also have been shined overseas. He jumped himself into urgent support for people with dire poverty in Cambodia in August 2014 and helped to provide education and to improve living environment. This was followed by recovery support of the Nepal earthquake victims in May 2015 as well as the sports goods donation to Vietnamese youths the same month.

In recognition of his good heart and volunteer activities, the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen rewarded a gold prize to Kim. It is also worth mentioning that he received a local patriotism certificate given by Jeongeup citizens for donating 50 million won on December 2013 to be used for building a local student dormitory.

“There are many people in need around us and many works we can do for them. It is a really good feeling to work together alongside the neighbors for people in need and I will keep carrying out my volunteer activities as long as I can.”
