To build a true church on the love of God and neighbors
Pastor Ryu Jin-wook, Gumi True Love Church

People often think of a church by restricting its meaning to locality. In their mind’s eyes, church is a gigantic church building boasting of majestic existence standing in every corner of the region. However, it is not the essence of church. Church is built up by connecting people who gather together to follow the God’s will, model after and transmit Christ’s love. Inner spiritual growth, not an outer appearance, is the right direction which must be sought after by the church.

True path of salvation through inner spiritual growth

Gumi True Love Church was born after deep thoughts about what would be the right direction of a true church in our society. True Love Church, which started at Hyunggok-dong, Gumi city, Gyungbuk in June 2013 with a dozen believers holding the foundation service, has made efforts to deliver the God’s love and grace to every corner of the community and guide the true path of salvation for the past 4 years. Especially, Ewv. Ryu Jin-wook, who had started for post in December 2014, emphasized that “the most important mission of a church is to deliver the gospel. The church took the lead in recovering the essence of church with his belief that his royal summons is to deliver Jesus Christ, a true path to peace and salvation, to the world and inform those who are weary with life about what is the real joy.
Rev. Ryu emphasized, “Recently, Korean churches are stigmatized as bigoted and exclusive  weighting only too much quantitative expansion. But an important value of church is to achieve inner and spiritual maturity toward Jesus based on the attitude of understanding one another and considering others. A good church must make our society bright and healthy through that enlightenment.” Actually, Rev, Ryu had resigned himself from the ministry of a large church, called Daegu April Church, after agony about an essential religious life when he set foot in the group will of True Love Church. He hoped to sow the seeds of “healthy church’ around the society through his pastorate activities of approaching people more closely instead of giving up his comfort and honor. He said, “A church filled with real joy released from formalism, dutiful to its role and summons as the God’s tool and achieving spiritual repletion solidifying substance rather than appearance is the picture of church we are seeking for.”

A church replete with love and happiness partaking neighbors

True Love Church is carrying out diverse activities to lower the threshold of church for community members and share with neighbors. Since 2015, the church has engaged in overseas missionary work sending clothes to such countries as Philippines, Vietnam and China. It has become a model church to share with neighbors by carrying out the event of sharing foods such as rice and kimchi through connection to the nearby community service center. The church is also making efforts to rear posterity with scholarship mission in the area, Rev, Ryu said, “ A church is never for a particular person. My position comes from the summons of the God to build up a church and I am making efforts to make believers whole by their service work and to be faithful to the calling of erecting the church (God’s body) to be healthy.” His such modesty, devotion and attitude of true service is now spreading around by moving neighboring believers. True Love Church which started with a dozen adult believers and three children has now become a church with over a hundred congregation.

Rev. Ryu and his True Love Church are intended to tell the right direction to those who wander after losing their way and embrace those weary from hardship and despair with a warm love by propagating the religion as salvation. Their aim is to tell the God’s love and plan to people and draw them into His bosom. He said, “Each man has his light. Depending on it, the light becomes weak as if to go out at any moment or becomes bright enough to shine on surroundings. Such light becomes even bigger and brighter when we stand together. We think the power of such light is the very picture of love that God wants to deliver to the world. It is our top priority to become the light of this society by making a growing community through faith without wobbling or faltering with the power of making people warm, snug and peaceful.” Their effort to make a heathy church oriented toward the God, Bible and church is expected to spread the picture of true church in our time which will transmit love and happiness.
