아기를 키우는 집이라면 반드시 갖춰 놓아야 하는 필수 아이템 중 하나인 물티슈. 하루에도 몇 번씩 아이의 엉덩이와 손, 입을 닦는 데 사용하기에 가장 많이 사용하면서도 계속해서 구입해야 하는 생활용품이다. 그러나 끊이지 않고 계속되는 유해성분 논란은 제 아무리 꼼꼼한 엄마라도 수많은 제품들 가운데 어떤 것을 선택해야할지 고민하게 만들 수밖에 없다. 이러한 가운데 물티슈 전문기업 ㈜로얄맘스는 보다 안전하고 부드러운, 차별화된 유아용 물티슈를 선보이며 육아 맘들의 이목을 집중시키고 있다.

㈜로얄맘스는 지난 4월 27일 서울 코엑스에서 개최된 ‘2017 서울국제화장품미용산업 박람회’에서 가장 뜨거운 관심과 호응을 받았던 업체 중 하나다. 이들이 선보인 유아용 물티슈에서 가장 먼저 느껴지는 차이는 ‘두께’와 ‘부드러움’이다. 일반적인 중저가형 물티슈가 55g/㎡ 원단을 사용하는데 반해 로얄맘스 프리미엄 물티슈는 60g/㎡ 원단을 사용해 두터운 부피감과 충분한 넓이를 느낄 수 있다. 또한 천연 레이온 섬유의 혼용률을 60% 이상으로 높이고, 엠보싱 공법을 적용함으로써 부드러운 순면의 감촉을 강화했다. 또한 피부보습·재생·진정 효과, 항균·항산화 작용 등에 도움을 주는 ‘알로에베라잎 추출물’, ‘프로폴리스 추출물’, ‘치마버섯 추출물’, ‘연꽃잎수 추출물’ 등의 성분을 함유하고 있다는 점도 주목할 만하다.
무엇보다 심혈을 기울인 부분은 바로 ‘안전성’이다. 김현수 공동대표는 “그간 물티슈에 포함된 각종 유해성분들이 이슈화됨에 따라 소비자들의 불안감이 가중되어왔습니다. 특히 유념해야할 부분은 최근 가습기살균제로 잘 알려진 CMIT, MIT 등의 성분이 과거만 해도 아무런 의심 없이 사용되어왔다는 사실입니다”라며, “저희는 지금까지도 공공연히 사용되고 있는 25가지의 유해성분을 엄격히 배제함으로써, 앞으로 발생할지도 모르는 위험까지도 사전에 차단하는 ‘안전한 제품’을 만들고자 노력하고 있습니다”라고 설명했다. 이는 한국화학융합시험연구원의 유해화학물질 테스트에서 25종 모두 불검출 판정, 피부자극 테스트 무자극 판정을 받은 것으로 증명된다. 뿐만 아니라 화장품 제조품질관리 기준에 맞춘 엄격한 환경 아래 생산되고 있는 로얄맘스 물티슈는 6단계의 정수과정을 거친 깨끗한 물만을 사용하고 있으며, 소독된 방진복 착용, 외부오염물질 유입 차단, 원부자재 에어샤워, 주기적인 샘플링 검사 등 생산 공정에서의 위생 또한 철저하게 관리해 0.01%의 이물질도 용납하지 않겠다는 원칙을 고수하고 있다.

‘최고의 사용감’과 ‘믿을 수 있는 안전성’을 동시에 충족시킨 로얄맘스 물티슈는 아이를 위한 선택에 민감한 엄마들의 주목을 이끌어냈다. 차미정 공동대표는 “저 또한 직접 아기를 키워본 엄마로서 마진은 적더라도 정말 좋은 제품, 안전한 물티슈를 만들고 싶다는 바람이 컸습니다. 그리고 이러한 장점을 소비자 분들에게 전달하기 위해서는 직접 만나며 부딪히는 것뿐이라 생각해 일반적인 마케팅보다는 박람회에 주력하게 됐습니다”라고 밝혔다. 이에 로얄맘스가 지금까지 참여한 박람회는 20여 회 이상. 단순 홍보와 마케팅에서 대기업 자본과 경쟁하기보다는, 고객이 직접 체험함으로써 제품의 우수성을 알리겠다는 생각이었다. 이는 즉각적인 반응으로 나타났다. 박람회에서의 좋은 반응과 사용해본 이들의 추천, 재구매가 이어지며 성장의 기반을 다질 수 있게 된 것이다. 여기에 지난해 8월 ‘TV홈앤쇼핑’을 통한 방송 판매는 로얄맘스의 급성장을 이끈 좋은 계기였다. 당시 40분간 약 1,500세트의 판매성과를 달성한 로얄맘스는 상품평에서도 대부분 ‘매우만족’이라는 좋은 평가를 얻어냈다. 이는 이후의 지속성장과 함께 ‘2016 한국품질만족도 1위’ 유아용품 부문 대상 수상의 바탕이 되기도 했다. 
자체 홈페이지와 온라인 오픈마켓, 지역 농협하나로마트, 각종 박람회 등을 통해 판매되고 있는 로얄맘스 물티슈는 고급형 두터운 원단을 사용한 ‘프리미엄 물티슈’, 저렴한 가격에 사용할 수 있는 ‘알뜰형 라이트 물티슈’, 식사 전후나 운동, 여행 시 간편하게 쓰는 ‘1매 포장형 다용도 물티슈’ 등의 제품으로 구성되어 있다. 자연친화적인 디자인과 고급 포장재를 사용한 점도 소비자 만족도를 높이는 요인이다. 이에 더해 최근 출시된 선물용 포장은 시장의 니즈를 적절하게 캐치했다는 평을 받으며 인기를 끌고 있고, 현재는 물티슈에 대한 고정관념을 깬 종이케이스 포장방식의 새로운 제품을 준비 중에 있다. 또한 이들은 지역 내 취약아동 관련 단체 및 센터에 물티슈를 기증하는 등 사회공헌 활동도 이어오고 있다. 매출은 적더라도 주변이 이웃들과 함께하며 보람되게 회사를 꾸려가고 싶다는 바람에서다.
차미정·김현수 대표는 “앞으로의 과제는 소비자가 만족할 수 있는 더욱 우수한 제품을 만드는 것, 그리고 해외시장 진출을 통해 한국 제품의 우수성을 세계에 알리는 것”이라며 입을 모았다. KOTRA 지원을 통해 월 2~3건 이상의 해외 바이어 상담을 진행하고 있다고 설명한 이들은 치열한 내수시장을 벗어나 해외시장에의 판로를 개척하는 것이 브랜드 품질을 강화하는 원동력이 되리라 생각한다고 전했다. 이와 함께 추진하는 것이 바로 ‘마을기업’으로의 전환이다. 지역 주민들과의 상생관계를 통해 제품 경쟁력 제고는 물론, 지역사회 활성화에 기여할 수 있으리라는 생각이다. 안전하고 건강한 사회, 안심하고 아이들을 키울수 있는 걱정 없는 사회를 만들어가려는 이들의 진심이 보다 많은 이들에게 감동으로 전해지길 바란다.

The water used for the tissue goes through the 6 stage filtering and all the workers on the manufacturing process wear the sterilized uniform and also the wet tissues are sampled and tested on a regular basis in order to make sure that 0% harmful substances or foreign bodies get into the product. 

To the best and the safest
Having satisfied the top quality and safety, Royal Moms is attracting a great attention from many moms. “I once was a mom and I knew how important these two elements are. This also was the reason that I referred promoting the product at exhibitions and fairs to the typical marketing because I could listen to the needs and wants of moms at the field” says co-CEO Cha Mi-jung. In fact, Royal Moms has participated more than 20 exhibitions and fairs and witnessed a number of instant responses which subsequently led to an increasing number of repurchase rate. The two CEOs took this momentum to push forward the promotion of the products at TV Home & Shopping last August and harvested an explosive response; 1,500 sets were sold instantly within 40 minutes, marking ‘very satisfied’ in the most feedbacks.
