지속적인 건강관리로 한 차원 높은 검진 서비스 제공
건강을 지키기 위한 여러 방법 중 ‘치료’ 못지않게 중요한 것이 바로 ‘예방’이다. 크건 작건 우리의 몸에 발생하는 질병은 그 치료 과정에서 상당한 시간과 비용이 소모되기 마련이며, 질병의 재발, 건강 악화에 따른 합병증 유발, 치료에 따른 후유증 등의 부작용이 발생할 수도 있기 때문이다. 이에 정부에서는 국민들의 건강 증진과 사회적 비용 절감을 목적으로 지난 1980년부터 국가건강검진제도를 점차 확대해왔으며, 현재는 생애주기별, 직종별 건강검진을 시행하고 있다. 하지만 여기에도 분명 한계는 있다. ㈜케어링크의 천창기 대표는 “최근 국민들의 건강에 대한 관심이 높아지고, 건강검진의 필요성에 대한 인식이 보편화되긴 했지만, 여전히 검진결과에 따른 체계적인 건강관리는 제대로 이뤄지지 않고 있습니다. 실제로 대부분의 직장인들의 경우 1년, 혹은 2년에 한 번씩 건강검진을 받고 있으나, 당장의 질병이 발견되지 않는 한 그 위험성에 대한 정보를 그저 인지하는 정도로만 넘어가고 있는 상황입니다”라고 설명했다. 건강검진 사후 관리의 부재는 결국 질병이 실제로 발생하는 시점까지 우리의 건강상태를 방치하는 것과 마찬가지이며, 혹여 인터넷 검색 등을 통해 생활수칙이나 유의사항을 찾아봤다하더라도, 정보의 질이나 신체 상태에 따른 적합성 여부를 판가름할 수 없어 오히려 부정적인 영향을 미칠 우려도 존재한다.

내 몸을 알면 건강이 보인다, 국내 유일 DNAGPS 기술 도입
‘Total Healthcare Service’를 구현하기 위한 이들의 노력이 잘 드러나는 부분이 바로 유전자검사(DNAGPS) 서비스의 도입이다. 천 대표는 “현재 세계 의료시장에서 유전자검사는 차세대 의료혁신기술로 주목받으며 날로 첨단화, 고도화되어가고 있습니다. 그러나 국내의 경우 친자확인검사, 일부 종양 진단 및 염색체 이상 검사 등의 한정적인 영역에서만 활용되고 있는 것이 사실입니다”라며, “질병의 대부분은 부모로부터 물려받은 고유한 유전정보와 환경적 요인에 의해 발생 확률이 달라집니다. 이에 저희는 유전자검사를 통해 개인마다 각기 다른 유전적 특성을 분석하고, 이에 따른 질병발생 위험도, 영양대사 및 약물대사 능력 등에 기반 한 맞춤형 건강관리를 가능케 함으로써 예방효과의 극대화와 질병 발생의 지연을 도모하고 있습니다”라고 설명했다.

천 대표는 “현재 국내 의료시스템은 많은 제약과 규제 속에서 더딘 성장을 보여주고 있습니다. 유전자검사의 경우에도 이를 활용할 수 있는 전문교육과 필요성에 대한 인식의 부재, 제도적 한계 속에서 세계적인 흐름에 뒤쳐지고 있는 상황입니다”라고 지적하며, “향후의 의료 발전은 ‘개인별 맞춤 치료’의 방향으로 나아갈 것이라 전망됩니다. 그리고 유전자검사 기술은 맞춤 치료를 위한 필수적인 항목이 될 것이며, 이를 선도하는 것이 저희들의 역할이라 생각합니다”라고 밝혔다. 이에 덧붙여 그는 “100세 시대를 맞이하며 ‘건강하고 행복한 노후’를 영위하는 것은 모두의 가장 큰 바람이 되고 있습니다. 저희는 현재의 건강검진 분야에서 나아가, 향후 노인복지, 노인의료 프로그램 개발 및 사업 추진 등을 통해 우리 사회에 ‘행복한 노년’의 가치가 실현될 수 있도록 조력하고자 합니다”라고 말했다. 이들이 꿈꾸고 있는 ‘건강하고 행복한 사회’가 멀지 않은 미래, 우리의 눈앞에 펼쳐지게 되기를 기대해 보자.

We all agree that prevention is as important as treatment when it comes to our health. This is the reason that the government runs the regular health check-up system for the people. “It surely is a good news that the government runs the system and the people actively participate in the check-up. The problem I want to point out, however, is that the after diagnosis management does not seem to follow accordingly. Introducing Korea’s first DNAGPS
DNAGPS is the core service of CARE Link that can realize its ‘total healthcare service’. “Unlike the advanced countries, gene technology is being used limitedly for paternity test, tumor diagnosis and chromosome aberration in Korea. In fact, who will have what kind of diseases depends largely on genetic information. And in this regard, CARE Link’s DNAGPS analyzes different characteristics of genes from which we bring up information on the possibility of the diseases that might occur and the level of nutritional and medicinal metabolism in the way to realize our ‘total healthcare service.” As an affiliate of DNA Link, CARE Link has secured vast amount of data, analysis technics and knowhow in the field of genetics, the fact that it has made CARE Link as the sole DNA-applied health diagnosis firm in Korea. What makes CARE Link stand out is that the DNA-applied diagnosis lets the receivers know the possible diseases they might have in the future and therefore what kind of food they had better eat or what kind of life style they need to lead.
