사회적 약자를 보호하는 합리적 대안 제시
최근 세계 각국의 정치인들과 경제인, 학자들은 입을 모아 4차 산업혁명을 준비해야 한다고 말한다. 4차 산업혁명으로 다가올 미래의 모습이 매우 급진적이기 때문이다. 지난 3차 산업혁명의 영향으로 각종 기술이 발달했다면, 이제는 기술 간의 융합과 분야별 통섭을 통해 ‘초연결성’, ‘초지능성’, ‘예측 가능성’의 시대가 온 것이다.
‘깨끗하고 안전한 세상’을 추구하는 ㈜덕키즈는 환경공학 및 IT전문기업으로 지난해 선보인 U-Smart Toilet System은 통합 모니터링 시스템 구축을 통한 사용자 편의성을 증대시킨 시스템으로 평가받아 지자체 및 경찰청 등에 납품되는 등 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 김형준 대표는 “최근 개발하고 있는 ‘Smart EYE Bus(SEB)’는 어린이 통학 차량용 어플리케이션으로 스마트폰을 이용해 학부모, 어린이집 관계자 등이 통학 차량의 안전 유무를 차량 내부 영상으로 실시간 확인할 수 있는 서비스를 제공하게 될 것입니다”라고 설명하며 유치원, 학원 등 어린이(학생) 통학 차량이 있는 곳에 적용이 가능하다고 전했다.
특히 SEB는 다수의 차량을 동시에 등록할 수 있으며, GPS 신호를 활용해 차량의 위치를 확인할 수 있다. 또한 모바일 데이터를 활용해 1대 다수 통신과 위치 및 영상 서비스를 제공받을 수 있다. 현재 등록된 차량 운행이 시작되면 학부모가 알람을 받고 어플리케이션을 통해 확인할 수 있는 알람기능을 개발, 탑재 중에 있으며, 학부모용과 차량 운전자용 2가지 버전으로 출시 될 것으로 예상된다. 이에 김 대표는 매년 꾸준히 발생하고 있는 미성년자 대상 강력 범죄와 어린이 통학차량 사고 사례 등을 감안해본다면 CCTV 이외에 보다 상호보완적이고 통합적인 솔루션이 필요하며, 앞으로 공개될 Smart EYE Bus가 사회적 약자를 보호할 수 있는 합리적 대안이 되길 바란다고 강조했다.
          
4차 산업혁명, 소프트웨어로 맞이하다
㈜덕키즈의 한 축을 담당하고 있는 환경사업은 ‘하수처리시설 자동 제어 시스템’ 개발로 환경부 산하 하폐수고도처리기술개발사업단의 연구과제 중 태영건설이 주관하는 세부 위탁과제 중 하나이다. 김형준 대표는 “국내 기존 하수처리시설은 모니터링과 운영, 자산관리가 통합된 시스템을 구축한 사례가 전무합니다. 태영건설이 특허를 보유한 하수처리시설과 ㈜덕키즈가 구축한 모니터링 시스템을 바탕으로 자동제어 공정이 완성된다면 통합운영 및 제어기술력이 확보될 것으로 기대됩니다”라고 설명하며 현장 시설이 온라인으로 동기화 될 것이라 답했다. 
특히 이번 연구과제는 사업단의 기술사업화 과제인 탓에 국내 환경시설 분야에서 확고한 입지를 가지고 있는 태영건설 측에서도 적극적인 노력을 펼치고 있으며, 향후 태영건설이 수주하는 환경기초시설의 운영관리 시스템에 지속적인 납품이 가능할 것으로 기대되고 있다.  
이외에도 ㈜덕키즈는 서울대학교와 공동으로 빗물이용시설 모니터링 시스템을 연구, 개발하고 있으며, ㈜예건과 함께 시범사업이 대기 중에 있다. 김 대표는 현재 ㈜덕키즈의 소프트웨어 기반 IT기술과 환경공학의 전문성을 살려 다양한 사업 분야를 개척해가고 있는 중이라 언급하며, 앞으로 자동화 공정을 포함하는 호소정화기술 개발 및 최적화, 블랙박스 동영상 공유 사이트 운영 등의 후속 사업에도 박차를 가할 것이라고 밝혔다. 
다가올 4차 산업혁명의 흐름에 맞춰 사회 각 분야가 전환하고 있는 가운데, 우수한 R&D 수행 능력을 통한 소프트웨어 중심의 IT기술서비스를 제공하고 있는 ㈜덕키즈의 행보를 주목해 볼 필요가 있다.

“Check the safety of your children in real time”
The 4th Industrial Revolution has become a hot pie today. Experts voiced together that the revolution will rapidly change of the future map of our lives. If the 3rd revolution brought development of technologies, the 4th will do the convergence of them for artificial intelligence. Released last year, the U-Smart Toilet System of Duckies Corp, an environmental and IT specialist, realized a total monitoring system that has increased user-friendliness. Its innovation has been well received by a number of local governments and police stations. Continuing its innovation, “We are currently working on ‘Smart EYE Bus (SEB)’. It is an app for school bus for both school parents and teachers to check the safety of the bus in real time through the video image” explains CEO Kim Hyung-joon of Duckies Corp. We can register a number of buses to SEB and the locations of the busses are shown through GPS. Kim also plans to divide the app into two versions for better functionality: one for school parents and another for bus drivers. Kim predicts that the apps will be applied to many areas such as crime prevention and accidents especially for children and students in near future. 

“Monitor the environmental systems in real time”
Duckies’ innovation does not stop at the above mentioned system and app. The company developed ‘automatic control system for sewage treatment facilities’ for Taeyoung Construction, as part of the Ministry of Environment’s research tasks carried out by the Advanced Technology of Wastewater Treatment & Reuse Corp. “The Taeyoung’s patented sewage treatment facilities and our monitoring system will complete the automatic control system for sewage treatment facilities and it realizes total management and control” explains Kim. For this reason, the cooperation between Taeyoung Construction and Duckies Corp is highly expected to be continued. Meanwhile, Duckies Corp is pushing forward R&D for rainwater facilities monitoring system in collaboration with Seoul National University and the pilot project is scheduled to be carried out alongside YEKUN Corporation, a landscape furniture specialist. “We are currently working on development of lake purification technology for automation and the monitoring will be provided through black box and video image on online” says Kim. It seems that many industries are hurrying to join the grand movement of the 4th Industrial Revolution in order not to be left behind and an excellent R&D capability, in this respect, is more than ever needed and required. <Power Korea> sends a message of support.
