소프라노 김현정은 음악으로 소통하고 공감하기 위해 성악으로써 뿐만 아니라 강의를 통해서 그리고 스스로 기획한 음악회에서 음악 전반에 대한 쉬운 해설을 하여 일반인들의 음악 교육발전에 크게 기여하였다. 그녀는 독일 카셀 시립음대 졸업 후 오페라 '마술피리', 모차르트 오페라 '차이데', 베르디 오페라 '춘희', 푸치니 오페라 '라보엠' 등에 주역으로 출연하기도 했고, 모차르트와 브람스, 슈만, 번스타인 등의 곡을 오케스트라와 협연하는 등 다양한 분야에서 활동했다. 귀국 후에는 속초시립합창단 지휘자를 거쳐 경기오페라단을 설립하고 클래식의 대중화와 공연계의 저변 확대에 힘쓰고 있다.

2004년부터 카셀 시립음대에서 다양한 음악 활동
2010년 속초시립합창단 지휘자로서 지역 예술 부흥 앞장서
김현정 소프라노는 한국에서 성악으로 학사, 석사를 마치고 대학에서 학생들을 가르치다가 클래식 음악의 본고장인 독일로 유학 가서 성악과 지휘를 공부했다. 2002년부터 독일 베를린에 가서 어학을 공부하고, 2년 뒤인 2004년 카셀 시립음대에 입학한 김 소프라노는 타 학생들보다 상대적으로 늦은 나이에도 불구하고 카셀 국립극장에서 오페라 단원으로 활동하며 관객들에게 주목받았다.
당시 그녀는 솔로 연주자로서 다양한 곡을 오케스트라와 협연하기도 했으며, 음악 전체를 아우르는 지휘 분야에 대한 공부에까지 활동의 범위를 넓혀 갔다. 그 결과 지난 2010년 귀국과 함께 김 소프라노는 속초시립합창단의 지휘자로 임명되어 3년 간 활동했다. 김 소프라노는 "시립합창단의 지휘자는 보통 남성분들이 많이 하는 자리라서 여성으로서 그 자리에 들어가기가 상당히 어려웠다”라고 밝혔다. 10년 동안 공부해서 박사 학위를 딴 여성들조차 시립합창단 지휘자가 되기 어려운 현실에서, 김 소프라노는 당시 시립합창단의 국내 제2호 여성 지휘자로 취임하여 속초시립합창단 지휘자로서 음악 활동을 시작했다.

2015년부터 '경기오페라단' 설립하여 토크콘서트, 음악교육 등 진행해
지난달 '2017 대한민국 교육산업대상'에서 '클래식 교육' 부문 대상 수상
또한 김 소프라노는 지난 2015년 지역 음악인들과 함께 경기오페라단을 설립했다. 경기오페라단은 비극적이고 무거운 느낌이 드는 오페라에 대한 관객의 접근성을 높이기 위해, 전체 규모를 줄여서 가벼운 해설을 덧붙인 소규모 오페라를 공연하고 또한 오페라의 작은 형태인 오페레타에 특성화된 공연을 진행할 예정이다. 경기오페라단은 2015년 11월 은평문화예술회관 공연장 '힐링 토크 콘서트', 작년 2월 인사동 토포하우스 아트센터에서 'The Voices for Nepal' 콘서트, 5월 경동대학교 양주Metropol 캠퍼스에서 웃음전도사 이찬희, 테너 김기선 등과 '힐링토크콘서트'를 진행했다.
또한 그녀는 자연스럽게 음악교육자로서의 역할도 담당하였다. 홍대 재즈 카페에서도 해설 있는 클래식 음악회를 열어 일반인들에게 클래식 음악 교육의 장을 열었으며 서울대학교 의과대학 최고 경영자과정에서도 렉쳐 콘서트(Lecture Koncert)라는 형식으로 오페라 강의를 했고, 더불어 강의의 내용으로써 오페라 아리아도 직접 들려주는 파격적인 교육을 했다. 이러한 행보로 인해 김 소프라노는 작년 연말 개최된 '2016 대한민국 문화경영대상'과 지난 4월 개최된 '2017 대한민국 교육산업대상'에서 '클래식교육' 부문 대상을 수상하며 그 업적을 널리 알렸다.
김 소프라노는 "향후 선보일 <라 트라비아타> 공연을 통해 많은 사람들이 더욱 오페라나 클래식에 친근함과 관심을 가질 수 있도록, 새로운 연출을 가미하여 대중들에게 보여주고자 한다. 후원사와 공연 장소가 정해지는 대로 여러분들께 멋진 무대를 선사하겠다"라는 소감을 밝혔다.

Ceaseless desire and passion in music
Kim majored in vocal music and obtained a master's degree in Korea. She taught students at university after graduation and went to Germany to deepen her knowledge in music by taking a course in vocal music and conducting at Kassel City College of Musi in 2004. She then joined the Staatstheater Kassel, a state-owned and operated theater, as a member of the opera company after finishing the course. Back in Korea in 2010, she won the conductor's position of the Sokcho City Choir and worked for 3 years. "The conductor's position of many city choirs are normally taken by a man. So it was really challenging for me to secure the place and it was not a surprise that I was the 2nd woman conductor in Korea" said Kim in retrospect. In fact, it is really difficult for women even with a PhD to secure the position in Korea. For this reason, Kim's achievement was but truly remarkable. 

Opening an opera company and winning an educational prize
Kim gathered her knowledge and experience and established the Gyeonggi Opera Company with the people of the same mind in 2015. To make opera easier and more approachable for the public, Kim introduced small sized operas with commentary and currently is working on expanding the scope to operettas, a form of light operas with acting. The Gyeonggi Opera Company held its first major performance in a healing talk concert held at the Eunpyeong Art and Culture Center in November 2015 followed by 'The Voices for Nepal' concert at the Photohaus Art Center Insadong in February 2016 and another healing talk concert in collaboration with laughter lecturer Lee Chan-hee and tenor Kim Ki-sun at Yangju Metropol Campus of Kyungdong University in May the same year. Kim also personally held a classical concert with commentary at a jazz cafe in Hongdae and gave a 'lecture koncert' for the CEO course of Seoul National University College of Medicine. In recognition of her effort in making opera easier for the public, Kim received the 2016 Korea Culture Management Awards and the 2017 Korea Education Industrial Awards both in the category of classical music education. "I'm planning to organize La traviata this time to attract more people to the world of opera with a new approach to the direction.
