Ecological experience by eyes and ears is a gif for healing to modern people

CEO Kim Hyung-Joon of an eco-healing experience village in Yongoreum

Pure Mother Nature is breathing in Yongoreum village
Healing from nature means a lot to people who are always working and have no space to think of something else and even tired all the time, because Mother Nature gives comfort and rest. Moreover, we are more interested in being well and trying to the life better with quality, they like some kind of healing programs with pure nature.
Eco-healing experience village in Yongoreum is located in Yongheung-ri, Wolsan-myeon, Damyang-gun, Jeonnam and it is the place for needs of these modern people to go. Especially, there is a Mt. Yonggusan, which is surrounded like a folding screen and its nick name is ‘folding mountain’. Also there are a temple called ‘Yongheungsa’ which was built up in Baejae dynasty thousand years ago, huge scaled cypress trees in forest, Yongheung reservoir having colorful views every season and other natural landscapes. This famous Yongoreum village has a lot of visitors who would like to avoid summer and experience some retrospective games in winter, respectively. Thus, family, children and parents generations like here.
The change of Yongoreum village was started in 2004 by CEO Kim Hyung-Joon who came back to his home in his 30’s. He wanted to take care of his mother who was sick but found out most people there were living hard. He tried to flourish the village, eventually. So he opened his ears and discussed on some plans to make the village rich and suggested new projects that might change the place. Afterwards, for 3 years, he prepared for the business plan for governmental business competition and made it. Since then, he has been changing the village from being poor and being a healing village. It was so dramatic.
CEO Kim said, “A key of the business plan was to make city people feel comfortable and convenient this area as an experience with having the concept of still life and mother-like feelings, which is Yongoreum village has. If we did something without plan or goal, I think it would be something missing of the village where had own character.”
Later, village people turned the name of village from Gagok village into Yongoreum and got 1.5 billion won as a support fund from the government. They built up a greenhouse, animal farm and agriculture museum including 5 pension columns and established the system to produce dried persimmons, mono maple trees, and pressed flower materials like organic farm products. Like that Yongoreum village was getting famous because of their various experience programs for visitors and it went viral. Now, they are suggesting a role model as a future ecological village since they make lots of income from it and have more than 5,000 visitors every year.

Discovering successful models of agriculture in Korea
Last March, Yongoreum village was chosen at ‘The sixth industrialization promotion business contest for Mountain Village’ hosted by Korea Forestry Foundation. The major reason to get the prize was that they were manufacturing preserved materials from leaves and wide flowers so that farmers could make some income during the off season. They already used to be a mountain ecological village in Damyang by Ministry of agriculture and stockbreeding and agro-livestock in 2011. Also, this village was the only the first graded spot in Jeonnam out of the evaluation of agriculture experience resort village business model in 2016.
Recently, Yongoreum village is providing a program about self-leading field-trip, which is connected to elementary students since they built up a school for ‘Nature experience’. The programs are filled with putting plants, harvesting such as agricultural experiences and pressing flowers, making natural soaps like craft experiences and waterside excursion in summer and flying kites in winter such as seasonal programs. It is led by CEO Kim Hyung-Joon who has licenses of personality education, counseling career aptitude and instructor of agricultural experience etc. Also, CEO Kim is charge of a director of board of Future Agriculture Education Academy, which he wants to make a happy farmland as his plan.
According to him, he would like to help more farmlands find out their own successful ideas out of the story of Yongoreum village. By that, we hope their success made by constant efforts for change, passion, and sharing vision among the people would be a seed of home for the future in agriculture.
