깊이 있는 철학적 사유와 통찰로 선(禪)을 추구하다
「인간이 느끼는 희로애락(喜怒哀樂)과 다양한 심리적 변화는 집단의 이해와 규범, 그리고 그것을 인지하는 개인의 사유(思惟)가 세상과의 관계를 통해 두뇌가 자각하는 정보처리 과정의 연장선에 있다고 볼 수 있다. 현실에서 이러한 과정들이 원활하게 처리되지 못하면 근심과 걱정이라고 하는 마음과 생각으로 재창조되며, 여기에서 발생하는 심리적 불안감과 모순, 억압된 자아가 불안정한 형태의 꿈과 환상으로 나타나게 된다. 따라서 심리적 문제를 가진 사람들의 이러한 꿈과 환상은 그들에게 있어 엄연히 존재하는 현실이자 실재(實在)이다.」 

차주현 대표가 해석하는 심리적 문제의 근본적인 철학적 사유와 가치관을 엿볼 수 있는 대목이다. 그는 이러한 해석을 바탕으로 내담자를 정신증 환자로 정의하지 않고 각자만의 꿈과 환상을 현실로 인지하는 자아 폐쇄적이고 개별적인 고립상태로 진단하며 마음의 본질에 대한 탐구를 주목하고 있다. 차 대표는 “마음의 본질은 언어학적으로 정의내리기 힘들며, 손으로 만지거나 눈으로 볼 수 없는 무색무취의 순수함 그 자체로 받아들여야 합니다”라고 설명한다. 이를 통해 마음의 본질을 말하고 있는 선(禪)적인 사유방식으로 의식 수준을 이끌어 내는 과정에서 내담자가 가진 마음의 본질을 원론적으로 변화시키는 다양한 접근 방식의 상담 및 치료가 이뤄진다고 답했다.

한편, 심리상담가는 마음이 아름다운 치료사이기 때문에 상담 과정에서 발생하는 내담자의 의존성을 볼모로 그들을 설득하는 수단 혹은 권력으로 작용해서는 안 된다고 주장한다. 또한 제대로 된 심리상담가라면 내담자의 증상과 정도에 맞춰 상담과 치료 방법을 정교하게 설계하고, 다양한 치료방법을 적재적소에 능수능란하게 사용할 수 있어야 한다고 강조했다. 따라서 모든 가능성을 열어 두고 접근해야 할 내담자의 문제점을 상담가 자신만의 일원화된 방법이 유일하다는 주장은 무능의 소치라 역설했다.

Based on this, Cha treats his patients not as patients with psychoticism but with self-exclusive who regard the dream and the fantasy as real. "The essence of the mind is hard to be defined in words but we have to accept it as pure, colorless and odorless as it is" explained Cha. Cha draws the patient's level of consciousness in a way of Zen through which he changes the essence of the mind of the patient. According to Cha, a good counseling psychologist must be able to bring customized treatment methods for each case and be open minded to all possibilities rather than believe that his method is the only and the best cure. In addition, a good counseling psychologist must not take the patient's dependence as a means to abuse his power.
