2006년도에 오픈한 육제곱에서 본격적으로 문경약돌돼지를 선보이게 되었던 건 지난해, 봄이었다. 돼지고기 전문점을 직접 운영하며 손의 감각만으로 다양한 부위를 발골하는 ‘돼지발골 전문가’로 불린 육제곱 홍성곤 대표는 소비자들에게 더 맛있는 고기를 제공하기 위해 지역 브랜드인 문경약돌돼지를 도입했다고 본지에 이미 밝힌 바 있다. 그리고 마침내 지난 3월 27일, 경기도 하남시에 문경약돌돼지 총판센터를 건립한 육제곱은 대형마트 및 가정을 본격 타켓팅하여 문경약돌돼지를 더욱 폭넓게 공급할 계획이라 주목을 끌고 있다.

 

적은 기름기와 부드러운 식감을 자랑하는 ‘문경약돌돼지’

지리산 흙돼지, 제주 똥돼지 등 많은 고기 브랜드들이 사랑 받고 있는 요즘이다. 이러한 가운데, 문경약돌(거정석)을 돼지 사료에 첨가시켜 고기의 육질을 더욱 좋게 만드는 문경약돌돼지는 돼지 특유의 냄새가 없고 일찍 굳지 않으며 부드러운 식감을 자랑한다는 평가를 받고 있다.  

한편, 약돌은 ‘마그마’의 분화 생성물로서 생산성을 가진 광물이며 무기물 및 기능성 성분을 포함한 약리적 효과가 있는 암석으로 잘 알려져 있다. 또한, 약돌은 보통의 물을 몸에 좋은 알칼리 성분으로 변하게 하는 특별한 기능을 가지고 있으며 경북 문경시 가은읍 수예리에 국내에서 유일한 광맥이 분포되어 있는 만큼 희소성 또한 크다. 특히, 게르마늄, 셀레늄, 홀뮴 등을 함유한 약돌을 먹인 문경약돌돼지는 항생제 등 약품사용이 적은 돼지로, 적은 기름기와 쫀득쫀득한 식감으로 사랑받고 있다.

 

‘문경약돌돼지’의 알리미 역할을 더욱 톡톡히 할 육제곱

우리에게 잘 알려진 횡성 한우, 제주 흑돼지 등 고기 본연의 맛을 제외하고도 지역 브랜드가 제대로 통할 수 있었던 이유는 마케팅의 힘이 컸다고 볼 수 있다. 현재 서울에서 문경약돌돼지의 알리미 역할을 톡톡히 하고 있는 육제곱은 이번 하남총판센터 설립을 기점으로 문경약돌돼지 홍보에 박차를 가할 계획이다.

“문경약돌돼지를 키워드로, 육제곱에 수많은 브랜드 마케팅 홍보 제의가 있었던 것은 사실입니다. 저는 문경약돌돼지를 도입했던 작년부터 육제곱 만의 신념을 지키며 꾸준히, 굳건하게 가고 싶은 마음이 큽니다. 그 시점에서 하남 육제곱 문경 약돌돼지/한우 물류센터가 앞으로 발전을 이루어갈 ‘육제곱’ 브랜드의 디딤돌이 되었으면 합니다.”

오는 6월, 경기도 구리시에 육제곱 가맹점이 처음으로 오픈될 예정인 가운데, 하남센터의 활약은 육제곱의 성장에도 큰 힘을 실어줄 것으로 보인다.

Yukjegop was opened in 2006 and it started to sell Mungyeong Yakdol Pig from early last year. CEO Hong Sung-gon of Yukjegop has excellent skills in boning the pork meat and he recently opened a sole distribution center of Mungyeong Yakdol Pig on 27 March in Hanam City to promote the heavenly taste of the pig.

Jirisan black pig and Jeju ddong pig are two of many pork brands that are being loved by many Korean pork lovers. If we can name one more in addition, we cannot miss mentioning Mungyeong Yakdol Pig which is receiving a good response for it has no smell but less fat and smooth texture. The pigs eat food that has the substances of yakdol. Yakdol is the differentiates of magma and is known to have medicinal effect. It contains minerals, germanium, selenium and holmium which are good for our body. Yakdol has a special function to turn normal water to alkali and Suye-ri, Gaeun-eup, Mungyeong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do is the only area that the stones are found in Korea.

Yukjegop recently opened a sole distribution center of Mungyeong Yakdol Pig in Hanam City and is spreading its heavenly taste to more people. CEO Hong Sung-gon of Yukjegop said "We started to sell Mungyeong Yakdol Pig from last year and has focused on marketing of the pork ever since. And the sole distribution center we recently opened in Hanam will play a great role." Meanwhile, the first franchise of Yukjegop is opening in Guri City June this year and the role of the center has become more important.
