Changing the paradigm of food delivery franchise
The food designed for singles

The increasing number of single households in Korea is bringing a whistle to convenient stores and delivery businesses. The food delivery app industry especially has seen a sales increase of massive 1 trillion won in the market backed up by the heat-up competition in its service type and quality. Player 1 is one of the many competitors in the field but differentiates itself as a food delivery service with unique menus designed for singles. While many delivery services often require an order for two people, Player 1 delivers quality food for single. Ripened kimchi and spicy beef rib among the menus of Player 1 are most popular. People normally have to pay 20,000~30,000 won for these menus in many offline restaurants and Player 1 just reduced the amount as well as the price for a single person. Pork belly or pork wrap also cannot be missed for they are served for one and you can enjoy spicy rice cake or Korean sausage as a side dish. “Many singles today prefer quality to quantity and our menus are reflecting this demand” explained CEO Kim. Kim opened the first offline store of Player 1 in Uijeongbu in October 2015 and has increased the number to 14 in Seoul and the capital region including 3 directly managed with average monthly sales of about 30 million won. 

Growing together
“Player 1 is a food delivery store so you don’t need to worry about managing a restaurant. The location or the high rent also cannot bother you as it is delivery only. Businesswise, I can say it’s an efficient and profitable business” explained Kim. The idea actually came from his experience of running a food franchise with his sister which was affected much by ever changing economic climate. And the idea of food for single was proved successful as the first store in Jakjeon increased its monthly sales to 20 million won from 2 million. With this success as spring board, Kim opened a store in Uijeongbu and created a monthly 40 million sales within 4 months. “Although the number of single households is increasing, there seems to be almost no food delivery service provider for singles except us. Our quality food designed for singles and delivered at a reasonable price have been the driving force of our success and we are reinvesting the profits in improving quality and services” said Kim. The menus of Player 1 are simple but made through the effective system Kim has built. “Most restaurant runners are often tempted to use cheap ingredients to make more profits. But it also is a fact that small differences make big differences in result. For this reason, we keep high standard in ingredients and hygienic handling and delivery. And through this way, I believe, we can grow together” said Kim. Currently, Kim is planning to open a food processing factory and a new head office in Uijeongbu early March this year in an effort to advance its management system. Kim said “I’d like to show my gratitude to the staff and partners because Player 1 wouldn’t have been here today without their hard work.
